Im planning a PC upgrade, new CPU, MOBO, Ram, GPU.
I use GNU/linux as my daily driver, but still use windows for games.
Rather than dual booting, Im looking at running windows in a VM with dedicated GPU. Would it be better to use CPUs onboard graphics, or an old GeForce 9600 I have about. I can get a decent deal on a Xeon E3 1230 v5, which seems comparable to a 6600k, but this doesnt have onboard graphics.
Would using an old GPU be worth it?
You need the iGPU for linux use, as the windows VM takes full access to your GPU

Or just use Windows and stop being a faggot.
>>57425086
Could I not use a second, old GPU for linux?
>>57425094
I prefer my linux work environment
>>57425094
But windows is bad.

Sorry, I misread the OP post.
That would work as well.

>iGPU
kys retarded newcunt applefag

If you plan on using a nvidia as host graphic card be aware that nvidia proprietary drivers fuck up with PCI passthrough.
Do your research before buying anything because most desktop motherboards do not fully support VT-D and using two discrete graphic cards could be a pain in the ass.
>>57425185
Do people here not use iGPU as shorthand for integrated graphics card?

>>57425217
Damn, really? What about the free nvidia drivers?
>>57425504
Is there anything wrong with pccasegear?
Wait, I thought it was impossible to use the IGPU alongside a graphics card. Doesn't using a graphics card cut off integrated graphics?

I never used MSY, their layout was shit. Mwave are okay, Newegg is good for the most part (other than shipping)
>>57425529
Nah, I saw that same bundle on there a little while ago while browsing for shit to buy. Thought it'd be decent if I ever wanted to go for a Xeon.
>>57425537
You have to set the BIOS to use the integrated card.
>>57425552
And then I can set up a vm to use my gpu? Even if that works, only having an i5 with 4 threads would probably limit performance.
>>57425497
they do, he is a faggot
>>57425562
well its not for everyone
If using a second GPU for the host OS, will this limit the speed of both GPUs if the CPU only has 16 pci lanes? Is it a noticeable effect, and if so could the host GPU be turned off when not in use to free up PCI lanes?
