I know a good bit about hardware, but I can't into programming and have never had a job before.

I want to get a job, maybe freelancing. I've been looking into Field Nation, wat do?

Does anybody have any experience with Field Nation or Work Market, or just general freelancing/contracting?

Extra dumb question happening here.
I don't understand the difference between brands and whatever you call nvidia/amd cards. Is stuff like EVGA, MSI, GIGABYTE companies that manufacture the cards? What does nvidia and amd do then?
>>
Can I get into a tech career without being passionateā„¢ about it? As in, can I become a programmer without being an autist who dreams in code or a hardware engineer without jerking off to circuitry?

I just really like money.
>>
has anyone tried to charge all 4 ports on the macbook at once?
>>
>>57424182
They suck the lifeblood of the gamer. Thats what they do. But honestly, I'm thinking ones Intel based and the other is amd/Radeon based. Correct me if im wrong. I'm not going to look it up.
>>
>>57424206
So is amd/nvidia selling the way they implement how to do graphics? Like it's a program they then put onto the cards?
>>
>>57424189
You like money? Go big oil.
>>
>>57424182
Nvidia and AMD design and produce the GPU, the most important part, basically the brain. Other companies design and produce the Video RAM. Others still design and produce the fans. So on and so forth. The companies you listed (and others of course) design and produce the final product, the card you buy, using these parts. Arguably they do the least amount of work.
>>
>>57424218
There are games and tech that prefer those cards. Or they say they do I don't see much of a difference just the price.
>>
>>57424220
I like money but I don't like 80 hour work weeks.
>>
>>57424225
That makes better sense now. Thank you
>>
>>57424182
That's actually kind of a good question.

I guess Nvidia and AMD do the R&D and license out the creation of cards to third parties.

The third parties do their own modifications to the cards that differ from the reference designs (cards put out by the respective company who did the R&D), such as different HSFs, clock speeds, et cetera.

I don't really know, though, so I could be wrong.

No I'm asking if there is a way.
My friend account got "hacked" and the hacker demands 30$ to unlock the account.
I told him there is no way for the account to be hacked with decent password, unless he gave his phone to someone.
He didn't believe me and paid 30$ to the hacker.

Obviously I googled, set it up via Network Connections > New Incomming Connection, set up a new user, etc. But I can't connect to it even if I'm on the same network (so it's not a ports issue). How to insure a Facebook account is secure ?
I'm asking because my friend's FB got hacked yesterday, and the hacker demanded 30$ to give the new login info. See my problem is that I haven't been exposed to this as a career possibility until a few years ago. By then I was almost done with my math degree so I just finished that despite knowing that it was something I didn't much care for (mistake).

Because of this, I'm so lost at how to proceed. I'd like to have a formal education which ultimately leads to a masters, but many people say to just self teach.

Even a masters seems out of reach because I don't have the required background.

Just learn languages and try your luck I guess. With a maths degree you should know basic algorithms (sorting, searching, shit like that) and how to logically divide a complex problem into simple steps; that's the main thing a programmer needs to be able to do. I don't know what the job market is like where you live and if people who get rejected often land on a black list (I've heard of such things) but honestly, with some proficiency in at least two languages in addition to your math degree you should at least be able to land an entry level job which you can use as a starting point.
Alternatively, if you learn about network or systems administration and stuff like that you might be able to get a job in that area; that can also be used as a stepping stone.

TL;DR
Learn languages. Know your shit even if it's self-taught. If you can't land a job right away, go for internships or even make some programming projects and put them on github, mention them in your application.

Make games for the love of making them. If you're successful with them, great. If you aren't, at least you enjoyed it as a hobby.

what does FOSS mean ?
>>
>>57429803
Free and open source software.
>>
>>57429803
Free and open-source software (FOSS) is computer software that can be classified as both free software and open-source software. That is, anyone is freely licensed to use, copy, study, change, and distribute the software in any way, and the source code is openly shared so that users are able to audit the design of the software. This is in contrast to proprietary software, where the software is leased to users under restrictive license(s) and the source code is typically hidden from the users.

This is not to be confused with no cost - gratis - "free" software, which may be closed source and/or have restrictive licensing.

Browse to Newegg's refurbished laptops, power search all acceptable resolutions, sort by price, don't be surprised if they send something 1366 x 768 instead of the listed resolution. Or check local shops.

BB is not a consumer review site, they're a datacenter. Those are shitty, cheap drives they buy in bulk and expect to fail within 4 years. Sometimes they buy inefficient drives just to optimize power draw for each rack.

Hitachi(aka HGST) Deskstar NAS and Toshiba X300 are pretty good storage drive lines.

Probably because you're running them in compatibility mode for OSs that didn't support CPU affinity the same way Wangblows 7 does.
I could also see those Poojeets locking the option entirely just because such a situation could arise.

I have a certain layout to my windows on my dual-monitor setup.

Is there a way to get Win7 to remember where all these windows are so that when I open them, they default to that position and size?

Usually when I update my graphics driver, or unplug one monitor, the layout will screw up and I have to put everything back where it was manually, which can be a pain.
