Just ordered this POS for like 10€. I'll be using it to practice dial painting and other potentially destructive shit I don't want to risk a proper watch with.

Looks like the case tries to be a Sinn knockoff, but I don't know if the dial is originally a Sinn desing.

How accurate are your watches? The most accurate, the least accurate, and the accuracy of ur beater.

I'll start:

Least accurate +15s/day

Most: -1s/day

My daily Seiko beater: +7s/day

hello /g/entlemen,

I am interested in purchasing a watch. A simple, cheap watch, which I could wear casually, use it as a daily beater. By cheap I mean reaaaaly fucking cheap. <20 euros or something. Could anyone give me any suggestions or am I better off going to /csg/ and getting myself some chink watch that will die a couple of months after I get it?

>Most accurate:

As I posted in the last thread, my 1975 King Seiko 5256-8010 has gone +0.0s from Oct 18 to Nov 6.

>Least Accurate:

1967 Seikomatic-P 5106 runs around +5s/d but runs much faster off the wrist than on it and has lots of positional variance. Vintage low beat movement so I can't exactly be surprised at it not being super accurate.

Most of my autos without micro-adjusters run around +5s/d because I regulate them myself and would rather a watch run +5 than -1, and close is as good as you are going to get without the precision of a micro-adjuster for the regulator.

My other 52xx Seiko runs ~+2s/d.

>>
>>57416135
It'll drift back to around +-20s a day
accuracy is not what vostoks do well
>>
>>57415855
i like the one on the left the most and i do not like the middle one at all
the murdered-out version looks very nice i think, if you're into that type of thing.
i like the look, but personally i don't think i would really want to wear a watch that looks like that.
meh, not crazy about the blue accents 2bh anon
>>
>>57416594
I tried regulating mine but it drifts back to -10 to -20 a day. My guess is the regulator arm doesn't have enough friction to stay in place, I can move it as easily as if it was oiled.
>>
>>57416626
There's a lot of things that factor into accuracy
Even though vostoks aren't that good at it, they have the best shock resistance in the business more or less
>>
>>57416671
No, accuracy is constant, even positional variance is constant, it's just that mine doesn't stay where I set it. I set it to 30s fast (to compensate for daily wear) but it goes back to -20 by the next day.

Can anyone recommend a watch that I can buy to my wife? Not solar. I would like some real gold on it, but fine if it's only details because I don't think it would matter to the wife. Not more than $200, preferably around $100. Something that looks nice
>>
>>57419690
I already have a pretty big collection of Casio's, my favorite being the 106 diver just because of how much you get for the 40 bucks that you spend.
It just annoys me that so many people will dismiss a watch completely just on brand name.
>>57419668
I don't think the sub is a better watch. It has a more expensive to service movement that you'll spend more on because of shorter service intervals, all for a very comparable accuracy to the seamaster.
The crystal has no AR coating which is just annoying
and if you buy a no date sub people will just think it's a fake, if you buy a date sub you'll have to deal with a tumor on your watch.
I would say save the 6k and step up to a JLC.
A reverso in black would perfectly compliment your diver.

the build quality is real nice also.

The all titanium makes the watch feel like either my orients on leather or nato strap when on my wrist. It doesnt feel like a way heavier watch

As you said with styling, i love it. The accents being blue makes it look like peering into the deep ocean at night. Its breath taking.

perpetual calender and atomic time are great. I have yet to have a night where it fails to get in touch with the atomic clock in colorado

also the tough mvt and 10 bar is nice, it makes for a stylish but rugged watch

theres one at $880 or so that i would really like to add

but id like to get a much nicer mechanical first

The blue accents as touches are perfect imo, it really sells that looking into the ocean vibe.

A shame yeah, but $530 quartz is a tough sell to some folks but this watch brings in a lot of tech in an understated look which is perfect.

I love both my mechanicals but i really like the impersonalness of the oceanus, some sun light and it brutally tells near perfect time for a very long time with the second hand ticking along at perfect second intervals. Just how everything lines up perfectly all the time, it speaks to the care in making the watch.

i love my orients though. Mako is my new work watch taking over from the timex which i gave to my dad to hold him over till he gets a replacement watch band.

You can get your hands on a Miyota 9015 pretty easily, just a quick scan of eBay shows up 2 going for roughly £80 each.
ETA 2824-2 going for around £45 there too.

Really the best to use is any common movement, so there are plenty of spares and documentation.
As for Date vs No date. Just hide it under the dial if anything.

That watch is exactly what it looks like. Cheap as all hell, probably will last at least 3 to 5 years at which point you can simply throw it away. However the quality definitely won't feel any good and it is bland as all hell. But yeah, f you like that go for it

I truly hate the internet, and watchfags along with it, creating artificial scarcity from abundance every single fucking time, and killing all the fun just because they think they'll make a nice profit. Instead, those straps will now remain up for sale for $50 forever and no one will ever buy them.

Fuck this gay earth.

That $4 in 1960 is now worth $32. So you're only paying an $18 premium.

Howbeit, friend?

I have sufficient reason to believe that you have used a specific form of identification, this thing known as a "trippy dippy code" within the confines of your posts. Thank heavens, the fine fellows at four-chains are quite glad and kind chaps and would be willing to assist you in your future communication endeavors. It would seem you used your trippy dippy code in a situation in which it was not necessary. Oh dear! One should always strive to avoid these sorts of mistakes when the conversation it was relevant to has ceased, with the exception of it being invoked again! Using one's trippy dippy code in uncalled for situations is poor etiquette. The ideal post is one made in anonymity, from the privy of obscurity, unless it should be required to compromise on it.

Oh deary, you need not express thanks - I am simply here to assist you in your adjustment to our four-chains culture.

>>
>>57432052
The newer ones are just really high-beatrate quartz.
The older ones use vibrations of a tuning fork instead of piezoelectric quartz I believe. Those will "tick" around 360 times a second which is pretty awesome to watched and as far as I know really surpassed in sweep by Seiko spring drive.

The modern ones use a significantly higher frequency quartz crystal to offer higher accuracy. The 16 beat per second hand is a nice aesthetic improvement if you hate the ticking of a regular quartz movement. I quite like mine.

I love my Accutron II. It's one of the 16 ticks per second one and it sweeps more smoothly than any of my automatics. It's easy enough to change the battery on your own so for me I prefer the more rapid ticks for aesthetics. 2 year battery life is really no inconvenience to me!

There's an old thread on WUS on what to look for. You're going to be stuck between fakes, frankens and/or overpriced listings though. Just got mine back from service, it was rather expensive and I've then replaced a few parts to further restore its originality to near completion.

Most Okeans are fakes as well, including that one. The most immediate thing to look for is a matching Okean caseback and not an unmarked one. There are more threads for determining those models as well, and polmax3133.com is a great resource. If you don't want to gamble then look for one of the modern reissues from several years ago but be prepared to spend a bit on it.

Ask here if you have further questions and I may eventually respond.

Guys I have really thought about getting an SNK809 or SNK803, but I would hate to find out that if I took it to a jeweler it would cost more to service it than it did to make the initial purchase

For low-end watches the service cost is going to be approximately constant. It probably depends on your local watchmaker/jewler options, but for a watch that cheap it would not be surprising if it cost almost as much to service as to replace.

This is the seller it's being sold from. I'm kinda weary because there doesn't appear to be much feedback for this particular Tudor look-alike watch that I was considering. Yea, I'm planning to order from that store as well.
Theres 2 other stores that carry the watch, but they don't offer the discount mycodewatch offers.

I snooped around their feedback for other watches and they seem to have a good rep. for what they've sold, however the numbers are kinda low.

You gotta remember you're taking a chance here bro. Some guy on ebay sells the same watches witth a different name. Pics have the same tag an everything and it seems they have a good rep. You can just buy it from ebay since, i'm assuming its the same person, they have like 3k+ feedback there.

It probably would not be too hard to contact the seller and ask about things like lubrication and if they can demonstrate the crystal is sapphire some how. Also, aliexpress does have some degree of buyer protection you might look into. If you are dubious because of feedback, I'd just mention that I have probably bought around 25 things from aliexpress over the last few years and never left any sort of feedback. The couple times I was burned it was because I didn't properly read the description of the product. You might get better help from /csg/ with stuff about sellers though.

Are you aware of the issue with the plastic gear in the quickset mechanism for the day and date in the 56xx?

The plastic tends to shrink from age and eventually crack, breaking the quickest capability.

The 52xx caliber doesn't have that problem because it is an unrelated design created by the other branch of Seiko at the time.

Timex is shitty trash. Either get a cheap Casio MRW-200, or the HDA-600 (pic) that comes with bullbars out of the box.

>>
>>57442023
not nearly as easily though. I think mineral (I've only ever abused hardlex, not other 'mineral crystals) is a good balance between getting scratched up by anything and everything and taking a hell of a lot to shatter
>>
>>57441510
Conversely people almost never break crystals but do scratch the shit out of them on a regular basis.
>>
>>57442295
Sure, if you plan on not wearing your field watch outside of the office. The original question had to do with shit-tier manual labor.

scraping it against door frames and all sorts of shit. Even when you're working with concrete and cinder blocks you're not likely to smash it compared to sliding it against something (because generally whatever motion you would need to do to smash a crystal it would otherwise be smashing your wrist, who does shit like that normally?) Crystals get scratched far more than they get broken. If you do smash your watch, often it's from the side, a lot of crowns get fucked up that way.

You can always make the bezel taller than the crystal though, then the bezel might get fucked up but you don't need to look thru the bezel to check the time. There's a reason g-shocks do that.

i'm not a fan of most of their designs, but they're not offensive. and from what i can remember reading they're not too bad quality-wise. also, one of the only brands making 24hr watches, which I'm a fan of.

I try, but you always have those last second bidders that make the price go from $30 to $200+

Depends:
High contrast: go for green.
Visibility under water: go for blue-green (least attenuated by sea water)
Maintain night vision, avoiding sleep disturbance: red through yellow.
If you are older than 30 you might want to avoid blue

Personally (meaning: nobody offers this, barbarians!) I want a deep red background and amber hour markers for good lighting and avoiding excessive contrast. Smaller details like hands in yellow.

Also, as discussed here earlier: you can use tritium to charge lume. That requires normally that the tritium light wavelength has to be shorter (more towards the blue end) than the lume you want to charge.

If you are a genetic freak or on weird diet you can also use infrared tritium sources and have a watch face visible only to yourself. Add "mwahaha" to taste. Same with UV, though I am unsure tritium UV sources are commercially available.
>>
>>57442937
Use a sniping service like gixen and just always put your maximum budget, you're bound to win one eventually.
>>
>>57443133
>using tritium to charge lume
What the fuck is the point? It works fantastic all by itself, no sense wasting half the energy to make some lume glow really dimly.
>>
>mfw strap from chinkland arrived earlier than my watch, even though I ordered the strap a week later

>>
>>57443241
no it doesn't work by itself. what the fuck are you thinking.
>>
>>57443635
I have a watch with tritium and it's fucking tits. I can't see any possible use for lume charged by it instead of directing that light into your eyes, especially with two stages of energy conversion losses.
>>
>>57443685
oh my bad i misunderstood your post
>>
>>57442843
Not to rub it in but I got that one from eBay for less than £30.
>>
>>57443564

>>
>>57443241
Most tritium tubes emit light in all directions. The light emitted upwards out of the face of the watch is eminent to see the hands. The light going into the face of the watch can be used to recharge the lume.

This is not about either-or, it is about getting both. I have tritium tubes of different colours as well as a lumed sign and I have tested this actually works.

Also tritium is far more expensive then lume so this is a cost effective way of getting the most out of the tritium sources.

So if Trump wins will that mean an increase or a decrease in the price of watches?
>>
>>57444330
I'm not sure either would have a meaningful effect on the watch market past the effect on the dollar their economic polices might bring
>>
>>57435191
I'm selling mine on craigslist, but I think I might be asking too little. I'm selling it for 160 in Mint condition. The crystal and the case are scratch free and barely worn. The only thing that has a scratch is the band.

I'm thinking of maybe asking 180 for it since it's in really good condition.

>>57435970

search for corgeut on ebay and the seller has them for 139 with free shipping. I think the name has star on it.
>>
>>57444252
All you need to do is mirror one side of your tubes and you will dramatically increase their brightness in the direction of your eyes. It's a far more efficient solution. But just to test I'll place another watch on my tritium one to see how bright the lume will get, although that's not going to be a totally accurate representation as your hypothetical watch would only be charged by the hands and not any indices which make up the bulk of the light produced.

they arrived :D

with my only watch being a year old techne i decided to purchase some swiss pieces. The incursore big date is probably the most impressive of the two. The dome sapphire is stunning to look at, just so elegant. I need to buy some matching straps for them that fit my wrist, the straps they come with are a little to big and thick. I'll still daily my techne, it's a reliable beater and these new watches are too special.

You mean what makes Tags so bad compared to old Heuers.

The answer is they are watches worth hundreds sold for thousands, based on nothing more than successful marketing.

Also do keep in mind that I am girl wristed fag and that huge all-metal straps wont fit me
