Usually pre built computers can cost hundreds of dollars than just building one yourself. This specific deal on the otherhand is saving you quite a bit of money since it comes with the vive, so it's pretty great for people who were planning on upgrading and getting one.

Plus, the computer itself is pretty reasonably priced here. You would probably save less than 100 building this one yourself, and even then it doesn't come with the vive

I haven't looked at the PC, but I have a Vive and it's amazing however there are rumors of a refresh or new model being announced at CES in Jan so I think I would hold off unless you want VR absolutely right now.

When I was a kid, which was a long time ago, I wanted to play Quake 3 Arena.

So my dad had a local PC store build me one. It was like $2000. It had a 2x CD burner and a Voodoo 3. It cost $2000 to play a game that runs in the browser now.

99% of current VR games were made with the idea that they should run at 90fps on a 970 and indeed run fine on a 480. I would still suggest for OP to save a bit more money and build something with a higher-end Nvidia card in it to run the more demanding games without hitting reprojection but the 480 isn't a deal breaker really.
