Notice I force it to only get prices from Amazon or Newegg; I hate having to go to different sites. Also no mail-in-rebate bullshit because that's normally a ridiculous headache anyways and you just end up getting swindled sometimes.

I made this a long time ago and it suited my needs quite well. Upgrade the CPU to an 8350, the graphics card to whatever you want, and the HDD to an SSD.
If you're going to go for a better motherboard, change the case to a fractal design define r4 or r5. Fantastic case (I prefer windowless).
It's more a budget gamer built, but I do more game programming than gaming. Your video card and your cpu are the most important aspects of a gaming PC; RAM is cheap so get 8gb or 16gb.
If you use an SSD, set your pagefile to the same amount as your RAM and change your default BSOD behavior to do a small memory dump rather than a full one. Always have your pagefile on your fastest disk; some people say to use a ramdisk but its a bad idea. Your temporary folders should be on your SSD too, as should your programs, but most data (like movies, tv shows, music) should be put on a HDD. You can use LinkShellExtension to make virtual "wormholes" (links), which will make it easier to put a music library on your backup drive but to put a link on your main drive where the data would normally be. This is helpful in cases where an application is expecting your data to be on your SSD where you may want to save precious SSD space and put it on your backup HDD instead.

Do NOT get that corsair psu. I sent that same model back for a supernova due to the loud coil whine. Amazon reviews have a bunch of people saying the same thing. Supernova at same wattage was actually 10$ less and had a higher energy star rating.

I know because I have done it (and regretted it). You can search and dl the old BIOS from any mobo vendor on forums if you're not a potato. The only problem is this was essentially a hack started by ASSRock (everyone else just copied it to claim a matching feature) but the non-k chips were never made to handle this and shit the bed with various features not working at all and massive power draw vs speed increase.

tldr If you want fast speeds for gaymz don't cheap out just get the k SKU CPU.

retard. the only thing thats disabled is the igpu (which is not suitable for gaming anyways) and crippled avx support (literally no apps will use this). otherwise a nonk i5 6400/6500/6600 at a certain clockspeed will offer the exact same performance as a similarly clocked 6600k.
