/g/ doesn't really approve of most consumer laptops, we either circlejerk about used business laptops or seethe over flagships and their users
mid-range lenovos are generally fine, just don't expect thinkpad quality, googling your product, I don't like it very much, the reasons for which being
>less than full hd in a 17" screen
>only 4gb of ram for windows 10 (upgradable though)
>no SSD

>/g/ approved laptops
The only approved laptops are Thinkpads T, X and W/P series.
If you just need one for school, just get something with a 5+ hour battery life and lighter than 5lbs with charger (lighter than 4lbs is more ideal). Something around 15" or less. Anything that doesn't meet this means you will never carry it on campus because of the inconvenience. Doesn't matter if you're going to program or do whatever with it. Colleges usually have computer labs with good computers that can handle anything your coursework needs.
If you're more a hands on, choose a device that has upgradable RAM and HDD/SDD (i.e. not soldered on), for some flex on the specs. Check out the service manual or google around to see if it's possible.
really, anything that doesn't fall for the "THIN AND LITE" meme.
See fig 1. New Dell vs old Dell precisions. No professional asked for a thinner machine at the cost of reduced IO.

What the fuck does that even mean?

laptops that /g/ does not disapprove of
It depends on your needs, anon. Thinkpads are shit if you need to do multimedia, they are good if you value battery life and screen quality for a decent price.
In my case, I need a fast processor aa well as a decent graphics card. The rest was pretty much my choice but the screen had to be 1080 because 768 and IPS because TN on a laptop is absolute hell. Btw, I have a Clevo N150RF (800 Eurodollars).
