My desktop just shut off immediately, without warning, like it would when there's a power outage. I tried turning it back on, but nothing happened.

There is supposed to be a light you can see from the back that shows the PSU is working and getting power, right? I don't currently see that. Did my power supply just die then?

What tweaks can I do to make a 1366*768 TN laptop display more palatable? The laptop in question is an Asus X54H and the black depth, contrast and viewing angles are just so revolting that looking at the display almost makes me want to vomit. It is truly the most miserable, piteous display I have ever had the misfortune of laying eyes upon.

I've already dropped the color temperature in the AMD control panel to 4000K which helped a little bit. Messing with the contrast and saturation values doesn't really do anything.

Well, the few I can see look fine. I don't see any bulging and the tops look fine/smooth, besides the cross shape that I'm fairly certain is normal.

If it's of any importance, I noticed that when attempting to power on the computer, the fans I have at the top of the back and front of the case twitch a bit, starting to spin up before stopping almost instantly. However, that twitching only occurs for one single press of the power button. It takes unplugging/plugging the power cord and switching on/off the PSU for it to happen again (and only once).

Is there a decent place to buy spare parts for a CRT monitor?

I got pic related new in the box for $40 but it died about a month after I purchased it.

It powers on now but when it died the video flickered for about 5 seconds and now it just displays a black screen. I think the flyback transformer is dead. It would always crackle a little bit (very softly) when I powered it on.

I had the same problem, did you do anything that would have put the computer to sleep?

I had a remote for my PC that put it to sleep, but the computer (WIN 7) was set to never seep. It was absolutely unresponsive wouldn't even think about posting, even tried forcing it on bridging two connections, it'd be like that for days then come good. The only thing to get the computer running again was using the old PSU.

I never found a fix for it, I just removed the clicker for the button that put it to sleep. Your PSU could also just be dead.

So I'm looking to build a rig pretty soon and I was planning on using an M.2 SSD as the OS drive and two HDD's in RAID1 for pretty secure storage. Thing is I was doing some research on the mobo I had picked and apparently ASUS mobo's have some sort of glitchs that when you enable the RAID for the HDD's the SSD disappears.

Should I scrap the RAID or should I scrap the mobo?

I suppose the RAID is really just me being paranoid. I could potentially get a NAS to back up to.

With VSYNC, you get input lag, worse performance, etc.

With G-Sync/Freesync you have absolutely no tearing, and perfect performance.

So, what's a better deal, the RX 480 or Fury, and which one will age better with time?

I'm going to be using a few monitors, but does four extra GB of RAM really matter?

It does not really matter.
I have 8gigs. Most games (GTA IV, Siege) on high/ultra will eat up 3gigs or so.
BF1 eats up 3.5gigs or so.

But you can always just lower the texture quality for something reasonable, 4gigs should be more than enough for anything.

So my ISP only gives me a IPv6 adress (ds-lite) and no IPv4 adress.

I want to create a dynDNS to my network.
The questions are:
Is this even possible with IPv6?
Do I even need a dynDNS, since IPv6 has a huge range and my adress might aswell be static?

I already created a dynDNS with dynv6.com and that worked, up until I wanted to start a simple HTTP server to see if everything works.
I created a portforwarding to my local machine on my router. The server itself is reachable within the network e.g. ports open.
Still, I'm getting an ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED when I try to reach my IPv6 adress...

Is there something I fundamentaly missunderstood about ds-lite / IPv6??
I understood that the shown IPv4 adress on whatismyip or whatever is shared with others and I won't be able to reach myself with this one.

For information:
ISP is Kabel-BW (Germany)

Ok you can just Google it.
Basically AMD gives you this (currently) Crimson drivers, that's the normal one.

After 1-2 years card enters to "Legacy" meaning they don't care, it will mostly work with those drivers though.

My 3650 support got dropped quite fast, moved into Legacy that never really worked, then the support stopped fully. My 7870 also ended up getting forgot very fast.
BUT, dropping driver support is normal. Intel also does it.
But you don't play games on that, so it does not really matter.

And Nvidia is just totally crazy for support.
Even Geforce 200 series has a fresh driver.

> 480 eats less
480 has a new architecture, just like how the Geforce 900 and 1000 series eats much less.
They eat tons of less power, thus pushing out quite a lot less heat.
Less noise, less heat, more efficient.

Also, check the cards for each vendor, most sell "0-db fan" editions.
Which means if the card runs cool (i.e. <40C), the fan will not even turn on.
I have a 1060 in my other PC, and the fan only turns on in intensive games. It's awesome.

My ISP is just one of the bigger ones that already is short on its ranges. Others will follow.

To get an IPv4 adress you normally pay extra i.e. a business option with your ISP.

I don't think it matters what I have on the other side. Most programs can already connect with IPv6, while using IPv4. Atleast the stuff I want to use has no problem with (mostly web stuff, though I'm a little concerned about VPN, but I bet there is an option)

My ISP just acts as a middleman with DS-Lite.

ISP (IPv4) -> Web (IPv4)
Web (IPv4) -> ISP (IPv4)
ISP translates IPv4 to my IPv6

You should check BIOS first, before Windows.

- Is it connected with cable? Replace SATA cable, check.
- Is the PSU cable that goes to the HDD works? Replace wit other, check.

If both are replaced/checked, go into BIOS, set SATA mode to "Compatibility/IDE", or "AHCI", or "RAID", try these.

if i use a notebook for office and internet things, will DDR4 be an improvement over DDR3?

Im looking through notebooks that have Win10, 4-8GB RAM and 128-256GB SSD and some of them have DDR3, i wonder whether or not the lower frequency of DDR3 could be a bottleneck
>>
>>57397141
No. It will not matter at all.
Back in the DDR3 era, it only mattered for iGPU speed.

Lately, I saw benchmarks where they showed that very fast DDR4 modules can outperform other slower ones.
Again:
- This only applies to 'extreme gaming' situations. Such as 4K with Titan and water-cooled overclocked i7.
- The difference is well within the margin of error. Couple of FPS.
- The very fast DDR4 ram costs tons.

So, to answer your question again, NO it won't.

Also, I would just buy the one that's the cheapest.
Manufacturers charge tons for a bigger SSD, more ram... both you can just buy from the shops.
And it's not a big task to install them into the machine.

SELECT `seats`.`type`, COUNT(`seats`.`type`) * (SELECT `seatTypes`.`price` FROM `seatTypes` WHERE `seatTypes`.`type` = `seats`.`Type`) as 'count' FROM `seats` GROUP BY `seats`.`type`

This works fine but I'm sure it's horribly inefficient. Am I right?
Thanks in advance

And my 7570 was released one year after that and supports OpenGL 4.5 and DirectX 11.0 (The Quadro supports only up to DX 10.1). That's crap.

It's 3:2, arguably the aspect ratio of all time.

SHIT NIGGER WHAT ARE YOU DOING
You don't just buy ECC RAM for the benefits of increased maximum capacity, but also for the ABSOLUTELY DECIMATED prices that occur when businesses with servers decide to sell their ECC RAM on the used market.

Happened with DDR2, happened with DDR3, it'll happen with DDR4.

>>57397112
I don't get it.

>>57397141
No. Absolutely not.

The only benefits of additional generations of RAM is the increased capacity and the decreased power consumption (and the heat that comes with it).
>>
>>57397199
Yeah i considered just buying a 400 euro model with a 500gb hard drive and 4gb of ram, buy an ssd and extra ram and assemble it myself. I would use the 500gb hard drive as a separate drive.
On the other hand i dont want to spend hours looking through notebook models and fiddle around with the one i buy just to save 50 bucks
>>57397331
>The only benefits of additional generations of RAM is the increased capacity and the decreased power consumption (and the heat that comes with it).
well technically i know that the frequency is higher so the "throughput" per second is probably bigger. But i was unsure whether or not an intel i3 could even get up to that speed
>>
>>57397331
One year difference is huge.
This is like saying one card supports DX10, other DX11, because it's one year newer.
Of course it will support a new standard, holy moly.

> You don't just buy ECC RAM for the benefits of increased maximum capacity, but also for the ABSOLUTELY DECIMATED prices
No one sells their used ECC RAM here, and if I do a new build, I want a current standard module.
My i7 was able to use ECC modules, but when I built it, no one even had used ones.

Now it's time to do a new build. Okay, Xeon E3 or E5.
DDR4 ECC. Oh wait, no one fucking sells them again?!
How great is that.

Back to square one.
>>
>>57397365
Well, you don't just save 50 bucks.
If you buy a ram yourself, you will get more ram, for the same money.
And, you get a Lifetime, or 5-10-20 years of warranty.

For HDD? Are you kidding?
A WD Black HDD comes with 5 years of warranty.
Not puny 1 or 2.

SSD? Again, kidding?
Intel has 5 years on their SSDs, and they cost the same.

You save money, and have longer warranty on parts.
Double win.
Check the manual though if the HDD/RAM bay is accessible at all.

(My ROG had to be taken apart to install RAM in the 3rd and 4th slot.)

Copy the extracted files on the pendrive.

>>
>>57397747
Sorry I was a bit wrong there.
Windows cannot do Software RAID0.
Only, if it's not your system drive.

There is Software Raid that your OS does.
Any major OS (Win, Linux, BSD, etc) can do RAID by software.

Hardware Raid is a chip.
It can be on a card, or integrated on the motherboard.
Most motherboards come with Intel raid controllers.
It's on the box, and in the manual, if yours has one.
Check that first.

Which is better? Depends.
Software raid:
+ You can access SMART data
+ It's fast, sometimes even faster than HW raid
+ No need to mess with raid controller
+ No cost for battery in raid controller and shit like that
- Windows will NOT boot if one dies in RAID1 for example
- Messy for remote installs/headless machines

HWRAID:
+ Absolute babby mode, "just werks"
+ Can be tough if it's a bitchy controller
+ Can boot degraded without issue (RAID1, 5, 6, etc)
>>
>>57397797
>intel raid controllers
I doubt my will have one considering it came with an AMD processor.
Can windows work with HW RAID0 if it's the system drive?
>>
>>57397797
SO NOW, head to google, find your mobo, check if it has RAID.
Most mobos have this "SATA mode" in BIOS.
Once you flick that to "RAID", the RAID controller setup at boot.
It can be opened with ESC, F whatever... it will say.

Good luck.

>>57397755
It's a mechanical damage. So nope.
The only chance in this case is to find a company, they get a same model, replace the plates in a clean room, run deep scan, try to save as much as possible. This is very, very, very, very fucking costly. A simple check of a broken drive can be a 1000$ or more. Then you pay for the donor drive, and then pay for the man hours, and so on...

Next time just use Backblaze or Crashplan. (yeah I know, fuck me. sorry.)

>>57397771
Yes, gookmoot added rogue ads.
Install "Malware bytes" and "avast", scan with both, clean.

Then, use:
> Free Adblock Browser (it's a Chrome, free, fast)
> Lightning+ (1$ or so, but fast and light, foss)
> Opera (free adblock in settings)
> Ad66 (global free DNS adblocker)
> AdGuard (paid blocker but works and needs no root)
> Firefox Beta + uBlock (FF is fucking slow)
>>
>>57397826
See my previous reply, Windows can't do RAID0 if it's system drive.
Your best shot is to buy a 128GB SSD, that's like only 20-30$ now, and RAID0 the two drives.
But, I just checked my local "Amazon", and I can see RAID cards for 10-20$ too.

Choice is yours.
I would just buy the SSD + do SW raid.
No fuss then.

But don't be so sure about this "mine has no raid controller", it's pretty standard now.
Just google the model, or share it with us.

> RAID0 ; RAID1

> PCI Ex

I forgot to answer your previous post.
Hot plugging depends on controller, and of course, it can be only done with RAID levels that have spares.
RAID1, RAID5, RAID6 and so on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels
http://www.raid-calculator.com/

If you have 2 drives, it's RAID0 or RAID1.
If you have 4:
> RAID6 - twice drives can fail, but no write speed boost
> RAID10 - one drive can fail, but speed boost and capacity boost

That's it.

Having a null value does not mean it's not not set. Creating a variable in PHP is equivalent to creating a pointer. It might not even point to an actual value but it's still created.
Depending on language "\0" is also considered as null since it's called "NULL terminator". Even though it's not actually NULL, it is considered as NULL in some cases.

Do you not understand?

LGA 1366 is from before Sandy Bridge.

Way to go for proving me right.

Also, it's not my fault that you bought in right when DDR3 was introduced. DDR4 was introduced with Haswell and LGA 2011-V3, so there was no excuse to not at least double your RAM for pennies on the dollar if you still had a capable system.

If you had waited at least one year for Sandy Bridge you would've been able to realize those benefits.

Also, i cores can't use ECC RAM, to the best of my knowledge.

I had a Core2Quad Q6600 which was an absolute abomination.
I had a D0 stepping one, which was said to have superior overclocking, and even though I had a premium motherboard, it didn't overclock for shit.

I mean it was ok for multiple-thread workload, but for games, and older applications and anything like that?
There was no turbo, it was just fucking shit.

Hello. I have this digital camera.

For wathever reason, it's a nightmare to remove and re-insert the SD card. The camera does not recognizes the re-inserting easily, and I loose like half an hour inserting and removing until it notices.

Is there a way to fix this?

Ok I am sorry.
What if you just run Windows in Virtualbox, and pass the camera to it?

Also, can't you just modify the USB mode on the camera?
It should have at least 2 modes, if not 3.

I spilled some milk on my mobo and it sent it into a boot loop, powering up everything but restarting after a few seconds.

So I literally washed it off in the sink and let it dry completely. I put everything back in and now it actually powers up fine and stays on.

The problem is that I dont get any video now though. The green mobo light is on and every fan is spinning. Is it possible that the mobo is still fried even though everything powers up on it? I wouldnt be surprised, since I kinda did give it a bath. Im just wondering if I should check anything before buying a new one. It doesn't go to bios at all and I dont have a speaker to test post beeps. Just blank black screen
Also I did knock the CMOS 2 pin cap off and replaced it (in what I think was the correct position). Not sure if this plays a part
Nope, it does not have these options. These are complex options. The name of the camera is "EASYSHARE". So you plug it on the PC, and it opens the memory space.

On Windows, I could remove the photos.

That's what you get for buying LGA 775 :^)
Should've bought LGA 771 and an L5420/E5420, "overclocking" be damned.

Could've replaced the CPU with a Xeon if you did a quick mod, too.

I'm looking to buy a GPU, a 750ti specifically as recommended by here for my shitty desktop in the meantime. The one I'm looking at requires a 300W, and my desktop has a 320W PSU, is that fine or will complications occur? I don't have anything demanding in this desktop, a Core 2 Duo E8500 CPU and 8GB of DDR3 sdRAM, the GPU will be the only thing added.

I'm trying to setup a system as a NAS, and I'm having problems with a 3TB hdd.

It's properly detected in the BIOS, and on a Windows system it can be mounted with all content there.

In the Ubuntu Server install the output of sudo fdisk -l is:

Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sdd1 256 732558335 732558080 349.3G 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

Any clues on a way to fix it without having to format it?
>>
>>57393444
I own a z170 based pc and i'll tell you that it ain't worth it. you get the same performance on older architectures for less money. Only if you want to go 128GB ram/ PCIe SSD / futureproofing it might be worth it but then you might as well go X99 which is more performance oriented.

>>57399573
Sorry, still troubleshooting it so I ended posting only half the message.

Besides the partition being detected as 349GB (it's the full 3TB, with about 2.2TB used), trying to map it results in
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdd1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so.
>>
>>57399641
How do you mount it?
ntfs-3g?
-t ntfs?

What is in dmesg?

I'm upgrading my PC on a tight budget, do I have to swap out the PSU? It's Tracer Highlander someshit someshit

I only saw the model name, which is KTM29024. Which gives me 2 results when I google it, also saw the text TRZ 404 below it, which gives me more results, apparently it's 400W and people are saying it's a time bomb. So I guess the question at this point is, do I have to swap it out or not. I used it for 5 years and I really don't have much money.
>>
>>57399648
The first mount error is with:
sudo mount /dev/sdd1 /location

Adding either -t ntfs-3g or ntfs gives
NTFS signature is missing.
Failed to mount '/dev/sdd1': Invalid argument
The device '/dev/sdd1' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS.
Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a
partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?

Unless you go with some very efficient i3 eco-build, 400W is not enough.

Keygens are generally rife with viruses and they have very little motivation to minimize false positives.

Likewise you probably have PDFs with protection removed in a way that leaves telltale signs. Again, viruses are common and anti-virus companies don't give a shit if they're over-aggressive on them.
>>
>>57399804

1) Of course I have more, 80mbps.
2) It happens with both Windows Server and Linux distributions.
3) This is the most I can get with cp, whatever, that's just the max.
It jumps between 500-800kbps.
4) ping is 100% solid, no drops, stable

I absolutely have no idea what can cause this.
