So why do people still use Tor?
From my understanding, it's still fairly flawed in terms of security, the only way to make it practical is VPN -> Tor -> VPN.
Is there just not a better way to do it right now?
Or is there some other reason?

Firstly, VPNs are as secure as wet paper. Seriously, even your mother has backdoors into those.
Secondly, TOR is pretty fucking secure.
