OwnCloud
Is owncloud legit or I am about to be Plex-ed?
If the answer is no, what's a decent alternative? I'd like to use it like dropbox, mainly for backing up a few small config files, ect. I already habe an FTP server that I use to sens stuff to friends.

hmmmmmmm sounds botnet
I've heard that OwnClould has been taken over by jews and Nextcloud is the /g/-approved successor. But I havent used either of them.

So, is there a solution that works the same that I can try- that doesn't have the word cloud in it- to prevent /g/-triggering?

Apparently you can install Plex on your own network and on your own hardware all by yourself but it still sends "statistics" and shit back to the mothership. I've been told that it basically snapshots your library and reports it.
Source: I've heard this mutliple times on /g/ so take that with whatever grain of bath salt you generally do.
I'm more in the research phase at this point.
I have own cloud running on a pi. Works legit, pretty easy to upload and share files. As for being a botnet, I'd have to go through quite a lot of source code.
I mean, you typically have to place some trust in big applications like that.
Service is great.

You can both turn anonymous statistics off and firewall all traffic except 192.168.0.0/16..
