Why does FTTN work so much better in Britbong land than it does in Ausfag territory?
>>
>>57377923
fecal toilet transfer network?
>>
government changed hands, newcunts decided to make it FTTStreet, copper TTN to make it cheaper or some shit because they don't believe most australians will benefit from fiber compared to copper with an argument similar to most citizens wont benefit with electric lighting over gas/oil laterns
>>
>>57378359
Oz internet will forever be shit unless private companies rollout their own fiber network
>>
>>57379588
TPG has that in my building, it's pretty great. 100/40
>>
>>
>>57377923
I've got FTTN 100/40 vdsl and it performs at full speed consistently.
>>
>>57380053
I've heard it's awful during peak hours, you must be lucky.
>>
>>57380148
maybe you heard wrong and your just a salty labor/greens voter.
>>57378359 isn't there meant to be a nice in every street anyway. also how's the average user going to benefit from 100Mbps, when all they do is stream movies which you can do well on the current setup?
>>
Something, something, more densely populated than Australia, something...

We're packed in like sardines here. My rural village has 5 DSLAM's in it serving 3,600 people.
>>
>>57380053
a guy at work has it and he started at about 30 download when he got it a few months ago and its since dropped to 18 (and its still fucked when it rains)

thanks obama
>>
>>57380233
Salty? It's a fucking disgrace you shitcunt. No matter which side of retardation you sit on, the nbn was ruined by the cunts in the liberal party.

We're paying for a pile of shit which needs to be replaced before it's in the ground, for the sole reason it's supposed to be just as fast but rolled out sooner... Both of which are fucking lies.

Go play with yourself and the rest of the retarded maggots who suck their thumbs and vote for simpletons who don't know how to manage a country.

Because its not like the libs rolled out to the same number of places as the labor party in a third of the time. Keep in mind nbn started in 2007 so you could also add another 4 years of dicking around to the labor party
>>
Because Britbongland is literally 1% the size of Australia?
>>
>>57380741
You're forgetting that 90% or more of Australia is uninhabited.

>fiber
>100/40

You might as well use gigabit ethernet then.
>>
Because fuckwit, the copper going to the houses from the node is pure shit. Also the government doesn't realise that using FTTP will be more cost effective in the future. Fibre is literally the fastest thing to transfer data over long distances and the shit receivers that FTTP in Australia did get are limited to 100/40mbs.

FTTN is a meme that is advertised to elderly showing them that money can be spent on other things other than internet / telecommunications which will keep taxes lower and their 144p porn is acceptable to watch.

Our government doesn't want to spend any money repairing the old copper, therefore British FTTN works way better and I am pretty sure they also have more nodes and their ISPs aren't complete dogshit.

Anyway I am getting 91 down and 38 up from Exetel @ $79 or $89? a month for unlimited which is still super overpriced.
>>
>>57380857
Also that the state of Victoria is about the same size as the UK with only 6 million people in it.
>>
>>57380615
Fuck you're a stupid cunt.
>>
So is australia's internet still shit? Im thinking about emigrating to australia but last time i was there before i came back to india the internet was really bad and the people were rude but money is so much better.
>>
We'll all be 100% wireless in 10 years anyway so why does it even matter?
>>
>>57381364
Yes, when looking to rent/share make sure they have nbn available.

>>57381365
Nope, the spectrum required for everyone to be using wireless doesn't scale.
>>
I live on kensington high street and all I can get is shitty DSL
>>
>>57381251
can't you just later replace the copper from the node with fibre?
>>57381341
nice argument, as expected from a union dog who can only survive by being from those who create wealth in this country
>>
>>57381383
>Nope, the spectrum required for everyone to be using wireless doesn't scale.

we can all use 10GHz+ there's plenty of spectrum available there and bandwidth too
>>
>>57381400
>can't you just later replace the copper from the node with fibre?
That's why Liberals say their plan is so much cheaper, because they are pushing that cost onto a future government.

In reality, their plan wasn't x% cheaper, they just delayed that x% for someone else to deal with.

Plus, it would've been cheaper to simply do it all at once instead of the hodgepodge we have going, economy of scale and all that.
>>
>>57381365
If only

i think they should just fucking abandon FTTN and FTTP and focus on overbuilding the shit out of fixed wireless and piggyback of optus and Helstra towers
>>
>>57381429
is that necessarily true though. it sounds analogous to buuying an i5 cpu now and replacing it with another i5 later rather than buying an i7 now and hoping it doesn't age badly. this seems to be working, considering there was some recent development that made fttp cheaper and easier than it would have been under the original nbn idea. after all its pretty common knowledge that you can't really future proof technology
>>
>>57381472
Well the 100/40 speeds are limited by the receivers in the house and the ISPs since nothing is faster than fibre / light. The future of NBN should've been fibre to the house with upgradeable options in the future for the receivers.
>>
>>57381490
but it's there a reason we can't do that? when movies reach 40k can't we replace copper with fibre and change the receivers at the same time also? there's not going to be much demand for super high internet speed until then anyway right, no one will admit to wanting to stream 8 different HD pornos at the same time
>>
>>57381534
Government policies and funding along with ISP investments into capable hardware to support the new infrastructure. It's pretty much arguing pay now / pay later sort of scheme.
>>
>>57381400
>can't you just later replace the copper from the node with fibre?

No you retarded cunt, you can't just plug fiber into copper.

> nice argument, as expected from a union dog who can only survive by being from those who create wealth in this country

If you can't see how fucking stupid you are by saying that a rollout increases in speed the longer it goes on, you're beyond help.

>>57381472
Haha maybe you should have gone to school or even just looked into the difference between copper and fiber.

Copper is a horse and cart, VDSL is adding rockets that fizzle out after 1 kilometer. That is never going to change.

Fiber is upgradable and not restricted by range, is far more stable, doesn't require a state of Hobart power grid to run and there is no faster than light cable available.

You dumb fuck.
>>
>>57381364
Fuck off we're full shitskin.
>>
FTTP ubermensch checking in. Get on my level, cunts.
>>
>>57377923
Its like this aus/nz < britbog < the rest of the fucking world

Fibre is not even available in my area and I live in London! I had bt, it was utter shit, would literally stop working for few minutes every hour. Switched to sky, at least its consistent.
I do not understand how internet can be so shit in this supposedly first world country.
>>
>>57381794
what exactly are you getting from sky?

Post code?
>>
>>57381794
Upgrading the infrastructure to make the same money, even though you would get a better service, isn't profitable.

It's why Telstra (then Telecom Australia) should have never been sold, funnily enough, sold so that the Australian populace could own it; even though we already did.

If it wasn't sold, the copper wouldn't be so badly looked after and fibre would have been rolled out much sooner and much cheaper.

Liberals couldn't have that though, they needed to sell it because they have no idea how to run a country.

Feels good mang. I feel your pain though, I used to live in semi-rural Spain. Was stuck with 256kbit ADSL for years and now 3mbit. It dropped out every 30min or so too.
>>
>>57381846
Yeah and while doing so were rated very highly for their fiscal management skills.

>>57381849
The copper was maintained well by TA until it was sold and then it wasn't profitable to maintain it, they also switched to cheaper cables which suffered from dissolving coatings along with being a smaller gauge (worse for DSL) and subcontracted the 'maintenance' for cents on the dollar.

You also wouldn't have had to rent the pits and pipes and the copper.
You also wouldn't have to worry about the USO (univertal service obligation) and there wouldn't be 121 POI's that RSP's have to pay telstra to access which raise the minimum cost of services over the network.

>>
>>57382006
>All it did was put money in the pockets of the merchants
That was the point of it.

People stopped spending money, so the economy started slowing down, so K-Rudd refunded us some tax money to spend.

It was also part of a much larger infrastructure and spending programme.
>>
>>57382033

>>
>>57382088
That makes sense...
>>
>>57381846
The entire Rudd/Gillard rule was filled with nothing but waste. Nearly $100billion surplus turned into $60billion debt, and nothing to show for it. They could have used the surplus to do FTTH and a high speed rail network along the South Eastern coast.
>>
>>57381985
>Yeah and while doing so were rated very highly for their fiscal management skills.
Actually, during their time Australia's credit rating was downgraded.
>>
>>57382099
The high-speed rail network will cost a lot more than $100 billion, m80.
>>
>>57382080
considering coal exports doubled between 200 and 2005, he could've taken a guess, instead of spending $50 billion so as to be seen not to be doing nothing (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-08-26/berg-the-cold-calculations-of-the-gfc-stimulus/5696150)

Liberals have made sure that the resource plundering cunts have paid nothing to the country that they are profiting from, we got nothing for the mining boom and now we're getting nothing from the gas. Meanwhile other countrys have taxed them and are sitting on fortunes, SAE are getting 50 billion for their gas resources and we're getting 200 million a year. Nothing sus there.
