4. Stop putting lighter fluid on your GPUs and claiming EVGA is out to get you, retards.

are you really this retarded?
>>
>>57371673
>>57371590
hold on anon, that guy is retarded but he may be on to something.

look at the PCIe power connectors, they're not plugged in.

Its possible that the card didnt have robust enough current regulating circuitry on the PCIe bus power in and tried to draw 10+ amps (at the pcie 12v mobo power) through the one or two MOSFETs that normally handle the 75w max from the mobo.

Just a guess though.
>>
>>57371744
Card shouldn't even work if the extra power connectors aren't connected. My GTX 980 refuses to do anything if they aren't connected properly. Even if one 8 pin is connected and the other has higher resistance than usual it refuses to boot. Never mind if it's missing completely.
>>
>>57371888
Depends on the design of the card. Well designed ones will do what yours did, but poorly designed ones will try to work with available resources, and fuck their own mouths in the process.
>>
>>57371744
>>57371888

>The auxiliary 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors were unplugged in the troubleshooting process. Although that in no way prevents power from going to the graphics card via the PCIe slot. Which is capable of delivering 75 Watts of power and is why we clearly see the LED lights and the fans turn on before the VRMs suddenly go up in flames.

>Normally, what would happen if you unplug the PCIe power connectors is that the card would power on normally. In this case the system will boot up as long as the monitor is plugged into the motherboard's on-board graphics. However, if you have the monitor plugged into the graphics card you will be greeted by an error screen reminding you to plug the power cables and restart. Or, you will hear a warning beep. In this case the card will also power on, but you won't get a video signal.

This is an issue that is only exists in EVGA cards, where the VRM is not cooled well enough. They are addressing the issue by giving customers free thermal pads and bringing out a BIOS update that changes the fan profile.

>>
>>57372823
That's awkward
I wish they would ditch their shitty "GAYMER LEDS LOL" design, work on fixing their shitty bearings and software, stop using cheap thermal pads, and fix their thermal paste application. Their customer support is shit tier on all front so I doubt that will ever be fixed.

What did PNY and Gigabyte supposedly do differently?
>>
>>57372152
Are those those cards pulling more than 75W through the slots? or is this another one of those cases where motherboards just can't deliver the rated power through the slot?

I remember 15 years ago, motherboards could die when you used the more powerful AGP cards. A lot of motherboards cheapened out on the power delivery to AGP. Is that what happened here?

They could have massive VRM circuits for the CPU, but hardly anything for the AGP slot.
>>
>>57375850
>forgot

Fucking bullshit. They """""forgot""""" in the sense that they saw they could save 0.1 cents per card by not bothering, knowing they were unlikely to be caught out since Nvidia cards don't have VRM temperature sensors. If the cards hadn't started literally exploding, nobody would have noticed.

>blah blah blah EVGA are so great, wow they're handling this so well!!!

Fuck off, shill cunt. The fact that this was an issue in the first place is unacceptable. No other company fucked up their cooling like this. The paid viral campaign to try and make EVGA look like heroes for doing the absolute bare minimum in response (i.e. cranking up the fan speed with a BIOS update and handing out tiny thermal pad kits) isn't going to work.

But all current gen Nvidia cards run dangerously hot right now.
