Hey /g/
I've got the cash on hand now to drop on a gaming notebook (pls don't crucify me I need the portability), and I was looking at the Asus ROG GL552VW, the only thing holding me back is the 2GB GTX 960M
Do you think it would be worth saving up an extra $600 CAD to invest in the GL502VW, which is packing a GTX 1060M 6GB? $1400 vs $2000
Just a quick yes or no.
>thx /g/

>1060M

ITS NOT GTX 1060M ITS JUST GTX 1060 FOR FUCKS SAKE
>worth
Yes
>>57355962
1060 will run everything you want

Just curious, why do you need a portable machine for gaming?
You should ask yourself if you really need portability or if you are just being a faggot, like most OPs
If you HAVE to buy a gaming laptop yes get the 1060 in it the 960 isnt enough anymore and despite the name the 1060 is more like a 980 than a 960.

The laptop itself isn't for gaming, I'm headed off to uni next year and need a good computer.
I've just never owned a computer than can run any games (seriously, not even TF2 or CIV) and I figured 2 birds with one stone.

You're looking at a pretty insane performance increase with the 1060 compared to the 960m
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-960M-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB/m27242vs3639
There's an over 250% difference between them.
Save that money and get the better option.

That sells it.
Thanks m80, it's another month of saving, but I hope it's gonna be worth it
>games
Fuck off manchild

Hope you dont plan on taking notes with that laptop
Don't do it op. Any laptop that can game decently will be huge. You will not enjoy taking that thing to class and will look like a retard when you pull it out. Abort now.

This x100
Doubt it will even fit on a lecture hall pull out table.
>>57357518
this
just build a real gaming pc and buy a shitty chromebook for notes. If you ever really need the power you can always ssh into your rig at home because im willing to bet OP is a CS student
Buy some cheap laptop and if you still want to game buy a desktop.
You'll spend less and get more out of it.

You're also looking at a huge jump in power consumption and heat output. The 1060 has an ~90 watt TDP, the 960m has a 60 watt TDP. Nvidia are slowly but surely forcing the power and price brackets down the tree. If they don't get any opposition, you could be looking at a $500 1150 putting out 100 watts of heat. Fanboys will gobble up because it's better than the 1050 in terms of raw performance.

Its only 15"
It's no bigger than the shittu HP laptop I'm rocking now
How much do you think it would cost me to build a desktop packing and i7, 16GB of Ram and a 1060? The laptop is $2000 CAD (~1400 US)
>>57357848
A quick look at Newegg shows any prebuilt desktops packing a 1000 series GPU and an i7 are going anywhere from $1700-$2200 CAD, and tend to have less RAM.
Is it really worth my time to invest in a desktop?
How much will I save if I build my own? Is it difficult/risky for someone withat little to no knowledge?

Buy an i5 and 16 ram with a 500w EVGA and a 1060 (that will run everything you want) i bet that's around 1200 and use the other 200 for a Chromebook
