In terms of things I learned? I learned how to do basic things I should have learned in school, like how to build a computer and put together a keyboard. DIY has helped me more overall though.

I'm on a similar track, OP.

/g/ pushed me to finally try out Linux and try to git gud. /fglt/ helped me through of my initial installation and configuration rough patches.

I was already planning on it, but it's helped me start learning web development, which I plan to make my career. /wdg/ is one of the best generals on /g/.

I think the main thing is that it has helped to show me that there is a far larger variety of people doing things like professional programming and web development than what you might initially think you have to be like to do them as a career.

I know i have all these opportunities of learning how to program/OSes/tech things here but lack the motivation to do so.

Higher mathematics makes you think in the correct patterns. There's a ton of convergence theorem proofs and shit I've never used in any practical sense, but having all that math churning in your brain long enough shapes the way you think. Programming is one of the things that become much easier if you have the right way of thinking.
