I'm lost in deciding wether to go Nvidia with GTX 1070 or AMD woth RX 480.
I only plan to game at 1080p60 and I'm interested in playing with GPGPU.
The 1070 is comfortably better, and let's be realistic; you're not going to be doing much GPGPU stuff, and if you do you have CUDA to play with.

>gpgpu
There's a reason why tesla uses pascal gpus

RX 480 is not much worse in OpenCL benchmarks or is even better in luxmark, compared to GTX 1070 and it costs twice less.
Maybe I could get both?

What kind of compute will you be realistically doing or are you just baiting for replies?
>>57293828
Cycles, luxrender, MTY_CL, maybe deep learning.
Why is it that everyone on /g/ seems to be only caring about performance in games?
Any AMDfags here that would recommend me RX 480?

Built a system for a client using the AMD 8350 wraith edition (nice quiet cooler), MSI gaming 970 and then MSI RX 480. 1080p Unigen benchmarks at 1080p ultra settings and 2x AA all were above 60fps, most in 70s. Get it.

there is also a reason why tesla cars explode

The 480, nvidia will blow up in your hands, haven't you seen the news

That's only EVGA.
Should I wait a couple of months for vega?
>RX 480
>literally kills your motherboard with load going over spec
Why hasn't anybody interjected that the 1070 and 480 aren't even in the same price not performance bracket?
The 1070 is significantly better
The 480 is significantly cheaper

AMDFag here. Got the XFX 480 GTR Black and extremely happy with it. Unigine heaven benchmark on ultra settings with 4x AA and had average 98fps. Max load temp was 68C.

MSI had the same problem with their 1070/1080 cards.

I have an RX480 and so far the only thing I haven't been able to max at 1440p 60FPS is ARMA 3.
Because you're just playing at 1080p 60FPS, I'd recommend the 480 because it's cheaper, unless you have some brand loyalty.
