Lightbulbs, switches and wiring are technology, how would you solve this?
>>
>>57249519
Old and easy
>>
>>57249534

Pls don't share if you know the answer, but I wouldn't say it was easy.
>>
>>57249519
Turn first switch on.
Turn second switch in a middle position when its kinda both so it flickers.

If its on, first
If it flickers, second
If none of above, third.
>>
>>57249519
I'd go upstairs and yell down telling people to flip the switches
>>
>>57249519
Figure out operating temperature of 100-watt lightbulb after say, 2 minutes. Turn each one on sequentially for 2 minutes each, but leave the last switch on. Go upstairs. If the bulb is on, that's your switch. If it's hot, it was the bulb before it. If it's warm/cool, it was the first switch.

This autism test would be HARD MODE with an LED bulb.
>>
>>57249579
Even simpler, just flip the first switch for 2 minutes, switch that off and the second one on.
If the light's on, it's switch #2.
If it's off and hot, switch #1.
Else, switch #3.
>>
>>57249519
Plug in my meter and see which one has resistance when I flip it. You know, like an actual electrician.
>>
>>57249519
>100W bulb
Haven't seen one in years.
Fucking EU
>>
>>57250101
>100 watt bulb 15 years ago
>meh not even that bright

>100 watt LED today
>OH LORD MY EYES IT'S TO BRIGHT
>>
>>57249559
enjoy your house fire
>>57249562
fucking ape
>>57249579
>>57249780
thats less efficient than simply going up/down 3 times for each switch
>>57249825
but you don't know what the other 2 switches are connected to. they can still have a resistance. on the right track though.

I only care about turning on the bulb so just switch all them on. Also what kind of clown house is this where switches control lights from other rooms? The real autism is the electrician who wired the house
>>
>>57250241
100W must have been a fucking sun even 15+ years ago. My dad once told me that his grand dad used to have a 40W bulb in his room on an adjustable ceiling light, and he'd pull it down to his table when he wanted to read. That was like half a century back.
>>
>>57250277
housefire wasn`t in the question
also what if the switches are just connected to the internet of things
>>
>>57249519

turn two switches on.
>>
>>57249519
Drill a hole through the floor so one can see the light. Alternatively, use a smartphone to stream video of the light to another smartphone.
>>
flip one on, see if it worked
open the door to the room, go downstairs
try another switch and look up the stairs to see if there is any more light
>>
>>57249780
I think this is the right answer
>flip first switch for some time then turn it off
>flip second switch
Hot + off: first
On: second
Off: third
>>
>>57250277
>thats less efficient than simply going up/down 3 times
Did you even read the OP? Fucking idiot.
>>
>>57249519
Who the fuck cares, just use all the buttons every time, you dont need to fucking know you fucking autist. these rules are stupid im out, check mate
>>
>>57249519
Turn 2 On and go up and check then you know, you might eliminate 2 and get the right answer by chance.
>>
>>57250367
Now the light is on. How do you figure out which switch turned it on without having to go upstairs again?

>>57250453
You do realize that this is not about learning how to figure out how to determine which switch controls a fucking light bulb in real life but more of a "learn how to think" exercise.
Im not surprised a dumb fucking normie like you doesn't like challenges or puzzles.
>>
>>57250367
>>57250456
If the light turns on, which of the two switches is it?
>>
>>57250440
What if you can't reach the light to feel if it's hot or not?
>>
>>57250500
The other one you flipped
>>
>>57250510
Get a chair or stepladder.
>>
>>57250525
What if you're watching a live feed of a light bulb in a room 50 miles away through the monitor and the monitor is up stairs?
>>
>>57249519
Wait until it is night. Go upstairs and open the door to the room, turn off any other lights in the house. go downstairs and flip each switch, noting whether or not there is any light pouring out of the room. It will be easy to notice because the rest of the house is dark.
>>
>>57250540
I mean the original light switch setup was pretty unlikely but I think watching a live stream of a light bulb being on is even more unlikely.
>>
>>57250540
>autism test
>OP is the biggest autist in the thread
>>
>>57249519
turn switch 1, wait an hour, then turn off.
turn switch 2, and go upstairs.

If the bulb is lit, it's switch 2.
If the bulb is off but hot, it's switch 1.
Otherwise its switch 3.
>>
Flip all three of them at once then go upstairs, you morons.

The parameters say you can only go upstairs once, they don't prevent you from flipping all three to the On position at the same time.

>people creating these stupid "puzzles"
>using Autism in the title or concept
>Autism has nothing to do with this shit to any degree whatsoever
>stupid fucking people will be the death of us all
>>
>>57249519

Is "goat" a hint here OP? because that's what I instantly thought about.
>>
>>57250277
>Also what kind of clown house is this where switches control lights from other rooms?
Are you stupid?
>>
>>57250614

Congrats, you still don't know which switch it is you stupid fuck.
>>
>>57250305
100w was the standard for large rooms, 75w for bedrooms/other smaller rooms, and 40-60w for lamps
at least where i live

pretty sure most ccfl/led light packaging still provides a kind of "conversion chart" that compares them with incandescent bulbs
>>
Why the hell would one of these switches control a light in a room upstairs
>>
>>57250277
no the real autist is you

the test succeeded
>>
>>57249519

Pick a switch you think it is. Turn a switch that you didn't pick on. Go upstairs and check. If you picked the one that works you win, if you didn't you switch your pick from whichever one you guessed it would be (ie you pick middle switch and turn left switch on, if wrong you pick switch to the right as the switch that will turn it on) and then you have a 66% chance of being correct.

It's baby's first probability course.

I'm not op but I get what you're saying
>>
Make a simple electronic circuit with a LDR and measure it's resistance using a multimeter.
>>
do a 360 and call my electrician because i know fuck all about electricity.
>>
Just turn them all on.
>>
>>57250730
It's not a probability question.
Changing the requirements doesn't make your wrong answer right.
>>
>>57250730
>hurr durr monty hall probability
this only gives you a chance of being correct, dildo.
thats not what OP ask.
>>
>>57249519
>switch one
flip it on and off for a minute
>switch two
same
>switch three
same

the bulbs at my old place used to explode when my kids did that
>>
>>57249579
It says that you can only go upstairs once, so why not check if the switches control anything on the lower level or outside first?
>>
>>57249519
You're only allowed to go upstairs once during testing or you can go up a second time after finished?

{S1 S2 S3} = {0 0 0}

Switch two switches randomly on. For example:
{S1 S2 S3} = {1 1 0}
Go upstairs and check the bulb. If it's off then S3 controls it.
If it's on then go downstairs and flip one of the switches to off position.
{S1 S2 S3} = {0 1 0}
All you need to do now is go upstairs and take a look at the bulb. On=S2, Off=S1

Apart from that you can use the thermal factor. OP's pic even defines the it as 100W classical lightbulb.
1. {S1 S2 S3} = {1 0 0}
2. Wait a few minutes.
3. {S1 S2 S3} = {0 1 0}
4. Go upstairs.
5. Emits light? S2 switches the bulb. Finished.
6. Is the bulb very hot? S1 switches the bulb. Finished.
7. Neither? S3 switches the bulb.
>>
>>57249579
LED still has the big heatsink on it which gets boiling.
>>
>>57250614
You were supposed to figure out which one it is, you dumb piece of shit.
>>
Haven't read the thread so not sure if anyone answered.

Pick a switch and turn it on for like a half-hour.
Then right before you go upstairs turn it off and turn different switch on.
Go up stairs and feel the bulb.

If it's on, you know which switch it is, obviously.

If it's off and hot, then you know it's the first switch you touched

If it's off but cold then you know it's the switch you didn't touch.

Done.
>>
>>57250101
I haven't seen anything in years, by the time these energy efficient bulbs warm up enough to be even remotely useful my eyes have adapted to the dark, i've done what I wanted in the room and already turned it back off.
How is it more efficient if i need to power a fucking time machine to go turn it on 40 minutes before i need it?
>>
>>57250730
you need 100% correctness not 66%
completely unrelated to monty hall problem, especially since it hardly works the same way. In monty hall you choose a door and then another door is revealed, while this one you choose a switch and it's the only one that get's revealed.

Turn on the first switch

walk outside and look into the second floor

Turn on the second switch

walk outside and look into the second floor

Turn on the third switch

walk outside and look into the second floor

I ask a family member to go upstairs for me.
>>
i sit back down and wonder why i wanted to turn on a light in a place i never visit in the first place
>>
It is a guessing game, therefore one cannot be certain they are correct. The test is invalid.
>>
>>57249519
Make a hole in the ceiling :^)

What the fuck, man.
>>
>>57250610
this ain't tea bag
>>
>>57252128
There is nothing remotely practical about this.
>>
Make one switch that tuns on and off the three switches at the same time.

Now you only have one switch, and I even didn't had to go upstairs
>>
>>57250510
Then you're making new rules.
>>
>>57250510
Manlets I swear
>>
buy a dimmer, connect it to second switch

switch on the first and second switch

if the light is bright, it was the first switch

if the light is pale, it was the second switch.

if the light is off, it was the third switch.
>>
>>57249519
Turn both the first and second switch for a while, then turn the first off. Go upstairs, fast. If the filament is still kinda bright, it's the first, if it's turned on it's the second, if neither the third.
>>
Turn on the first switch for a month, check electric counter or wait for electricity bill.
Repeat for the two other switches.
A 129,600 kJ difference in power consumption will suffice to conclude.
No going upstairs required.
>>
>>57253573
Bingo
>>
spam one switch at a time and rotate between the switches
once the bulb burns out youll hear an audible bang and youll know the switch you spammed controls the bulb
youll still need to go upstairs to switch the bulb out though

I dont know.. am I? Every house I've been in had the light switches in the same room as the lights, mostly near the room entrance.
>stupid bec I question the fucktard who went against building codes
>>
>>57249519
okay jesus, if only one switch goes to upstairs, the other ones probably are somewhere near the room of the switches, try all three, the one that doesn't turn something on is the winner.
>>
>>57249519
Turn two on, go check. Turn one off or turn the 3rd one on and there you go.
