mpv threads were a mistake and the only thing they succeeded in was bait in retarded Windows users so that we now have retarded opening posts and posters. Everyday when I see this thread I'm reminded of how pleb and reddit 4chan has become.

MPV gives worse performance because it enhances rendering of the video, unless you use no rendering enhancements but then it looks no different than VLC.

Give it a try and see would be easiest.

Still far behind MPDN on windows even if it's in slow/stalled development.
It's almost the same as mpv but optimized for windows!

>>

>>57244003
quick question guys, what are the accepted values for --ytdl-format ?
I'm using
ytdl-format=bestvideo+bestaudio/best

but I wanted to know if there's a way to always choose 720p or even 480p as default.
>>
>>57251186
ytdl-format=bestvideo[height=720]+bestaudio/best
Just fucking read ytdl documentation.
>>
>>57251258
>Just fucking read ytdl documentation.
you are cute, this is a mpv thread to ask about and check others configs.

I read that, but you only get 720p, I thought there was a chance you could use something generic like "bestvideo" but instead of invoking the highest resolution of the video you could get the stream with the second best quality.
Most youtube shit is 1080p so that would mean that you get 720p and in some cases you get the next res, 480p.
Thanks for your input anyways friendo.
>>
>>57251305
>I read that
No you didn't, if you actually read it you would see how to do it, since it's literally in the same paragraph.
>>
>>57251379
I may be failing hard to explain what I want to do and you are just being an asshole anon, but again. I read it, if the video is 720p with that format you will get 720p. I was asking if you can always get by default get the next to the bestvideo available. If you have a video with a top res of 1080p, you get 720p, if you have 720p you get 480p, if you have 480p you go down to 360p.
Thanks again for confirming what I already found, was looking for something else that maybe wasn't listed given that you can use something generic as "bestvideo" to just get the top quality available.
>>
>>57251450
I believe that it picked the resolution below 720p aka 480p and 360p if there is no 480p. etc..

You can go ahead and try it.
>>
>>57251450
I doubt it's possible without scripting, because nobody in the whole world besides you has even wanted to do that, because it's actually retarded. Sorry.
>>
>>57251524
yeah, I was just watching a video and I was thinking most of time I use it with mpv I want it to load fast rather than have the greatest resolution available because I have it in a small floating window that it{s kind of fixed through out all my workspaces.
Again it was an odd request and I just wondered if it wasn't already an available option.
>>
>>57251599
I remember seeing something about being able to load multiple link qualities into mpv from youtube-dl and switching between them with them video track switch hotkey, I forget where I saw it though. Maybe someone else here remembers.
That seems like it would do what you want, load a bad quality first so it loads quickly, then if you actually want to watch the video you just switch to the higher quality.
>>
Heard mpv can make webm, installed mpv. Turns out mpv can't make webms, at least not out of the box. How do I fix this? Also, is there any shame in installing a GUI frontend instead? Because I can't and won't EVER remember all the keyboard shortcuts.
>>
>>57251718
>is there any shame in installing a GUI frontend instead?
No, but they're all shit. Makes me mad that none of them allow me to load an external mpv.conf without the gui fucking shit up on its own with shitty default settings
>>
>>57251718
no video player creates webms.

what mpv can do is call ffmpeg from a lua script and create a webm.
>>
>>57251826
>but they're all shit
I just realized that. Are not of them updated parallel to mpv? I suppose there's not much demand since most people using GUI haven't even heard of MPV.
>>57251855
So people lied? I found a script, but it doesn't support cropping. What a load of shit.
>>
>>57251895
>Are not of them updated parallel to mpv
as far as I know, no. However, out of all guis that i've tried, smplayer is by far the best. It's kinda shit but it's useful, has lots of features and you can more or less easily change any settings by passing arguments in the advanced menu
>>

You don't need scripts to encode with mpv
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/blob/master/DOCS/encoding.rst

Here is an example webm encode and you can crop using usual vf crop filter

mpv southpark.mkv -audio no -o output.webm -of webm -ovc libvpx -ovcopts qmin=6,b=1000000k --start=30 --end=40 -vf=crop=500:500:400:200

Youtube dooesn't allow their visitors to download its youtuber's creations directly. So why did they allow some fags to steal them?

Hey do you know these people earn money and that almost videos from youtube are copyrighted?

Please we are in 2016 not in 2000, we can't allow this kind of software and it's very strange that github didn't close the youtube-dl repository!
>>
>>57253399
The point made in the link is that youtube-dl doesn't support streaming content from sites that don't have the rights to stream them (there's only a few anime sites that actually buy the licenses to stream the content).
It's not about whether the site allows download or not, it's about if it's a legitimate distributor, which Youtube (and Crunchyroll) is (in most cases).
>>
>>57252824
For that you need the time/frame to cut at and the cropping dimensions. But editing from a playing video directly is far more intuitive and thus more productive. I don't want to encode 10 or more times before I get just the right webm I want.

Have you confirmed that your script is picking the right framerate?

If so, then it might either be the case that mpv reacts poorly to a change in display FPS, or it might be the case that your OpenGL drivers react poorly to a change in display FPS.

>>57258676
btw, something else you could check is doing the following:

1. run mpv (with the script disabled) with multiple files
2. change the FPS while mpv is running

The exact results of this experiment could shed light on the issue

>>57258692
Alright I'll try that and post results. Again though, is there any easier way to screenshot stats?

ctrl+s ?

Doesn't seem to work, and it seems to break once I switch to 72Hz, otherwise it works perfectly at 60Hz with interpolation or 72Hz without.

wats the best mpv config. the highest one

I don't understand you, can you rephrase in more detail?

would it be possible to make a graphical equalizer as an mpv script in lua?

Yes, but not easy

>Still far behind MPDN on windows even if it's in slow/stalled development.
>It's almost the same as mpv but optimized for windows!
Terrible colour management, inefficient chroma scaling algorithms that upsample each channel individually before merging instead of the opposite, written in C#, etcetera.
>>
>>57259142
The command ctrl+s doesn't work for me, just gives me a message saying error taking screenshot.

It breaks during the switch to 72Jz, otherwise at 60Hz and 72Hz it works fine.
>>
>>57258578
So many redundant options that are already covered by opengl-hq.
>>
>>57258578
dither-depth=auto
correct-downscaling=yes
sigmoid-upscaling=yes
Are already covered by opengl-hq. Linear is better than oversample and more performant, although sinc with tscale-clamp is better than both. Crossbilateral with chromasuperres is the best cscale (which your mpv.conf erroneously sets due to a typo).
>>
>>57259572
Thanks, that must have just happened tonight in regards to the cscale when I was changing settings in regards to the issue I was having. I'll try out the settings you recommended too.
>>
>>57259572
I'm assuming chromasuperres is a shader, but I can't seem to find it.

Also, I should've mentioned that I'm not using interpolation anymore, thus don't need to use tscale.

SSIMSuperRes.

Why not?
>>
>>57259666
Because I'm instead switching my monitor to 72Hz , as I was only using it in the first place to get rid of judder. Thanks for the link, I thought it might've been that but just wanted to make sure.

That's weird, sounds like your OpenGL implementation is a piece of shit

And does it get better again when mpv starts playing a different file?
>>

Not sure what you mean, is it something that I can fix?

>>57259720
Yes, once my display is at 72Hz opening another file works fine.

What? I thought we don't have any motion interpolation option.

Because you don't have opengl-hq.

Ctrl+s was broken with ANGLE like for eternity.

not true. it can outperform dxinterop in some graphic

how about a native OpenGL driver that isn't a piece of shit directx wrapper?

The estimation mpv does is not necessarily reliable. Also, it's not used unless you use display resample anyway.

>>57261698
No, opengl-hq is a total mess with these sharpeners.
Furthermore I have a dummy laptop and opengl-hq with deband is too high.

anyone know which method/script is the best for anime? i don't mind combining 2 or 3 script because i think my pc can handle it. thanks.

Is there a good reason (other than incompetence) that mpv doesn't output to EVR on Windows but instead relies on horse shit like dxinterop or angle?

wm4 personal repo contains this: https://github.com/wm4/mpv/commit/1f9fb39130d15dfa72657e99c6fb8f3acbbe0e09

So what the deal with that? Is EVR Direct3D 11 possible but only for Plex maybe, why else start work on media foundation hw decoding?
>>
Is Opus really worth using over Ogg or AAC? Does it actually perform that much better?
>>
>>57266408
>It doesn't help that no one is interested in going from 8bit color to 10 bit or higher.
Do 10bit videos remove banding when being watched on 8 bit monitors? If so, 10 bit monitors are very expensive so that might be why. I've never owned one but I've read that calibrating a 10 but monitor is a pain in the ass
>>
>>57265894
EVR is shit
>>
>>57266827
Opus performs amazingly at (extremely) low bitrates, once you get into relatively higher bitrates, the codec doesn't really matter that much since they mostly perform close to transparency (as long as you're not using shit codecs like MP3).
>>
>>57266827
>>57267908
Also, AAC quality really depends on the encoder you use, there are a lot of complete shit AAC encoders out there, Apple's is probably the best (by far) currently but you need iTunes installed to encode with it, as far as I know.
>>
>>57263808
Wrong thread!
Mpv is an advanced media player!
MPDN is a true shit without any future, it is used by shiandow to test his shaders because madshi doesn't allow this!
>>
I just notice the changes for SSimSuperRes and adaptive-sharpen shaders. I confirm it's better like that! Thank you!
