Where are all the "iOS is the most secure OS ever xD" shills now? If this shit happened on Android, this thread would already have 200 replies of pure shitposting.

THANK YOU BASED IOS!!!!
>new root exploit for Android
ANDROID FINISHED AND BANKRUPT
>>
>>57238143

ios has the spotlight so this is not surprising, considering were talking about apple hardware here this is unacceptable
>>
reminds me of early PSP hacking days.
open this .tiff image in your image browser, receive root
>>

Dude, it happens to android all the time, what do you think rooting your phone does.
>>
>>57238143
Buying device only to few years later discover a bug which allows you to use your device as you want.

Why not buy device which gives you root access by default?

Or x86/ARM
Or Dx12/Vulkan.

And i can keep going.

I'm sitting on an iBoot exploit for A7 devices so I like to dig around the new updates a little. All you have to do is pull some firmware keys while the signing window is open, decrypt and extract the IPSW file, then start doing whatever you want. This way a lot of the userland stuff is exposed and you can insert a modded fstab into /private/etc/new_dir_you_made and repack it, restore to it in iTunes, then set up some of the iBoot arguments on the iPhone wiki so that the old fstab in etc is ignored. iOS security is pretty shit tbqh. There's literally no reason for the second stage loader to be interactive or even in any way accessible over serial since it has no use to the average user. Only hackers and Apple firmware devs need it. Apple already uses special devices marked with production tags in hardware and special signed firmware with a similar tag is required to operate them. Only those should have this "feature" if you can even call it that.

>>57238536
The truth is that all software has flaws. Nothing is 100% safe, even with a cute little fruit logo (I'm looking at you, Apple and Blackberry).

>>57238629
There haven't been significant iOS device hardware exploits since the iPhone 4 unless you count NAND mirroring. I don't count that since it's not specific to Apple products, even though an iPhone was used to demonstrate.

>>57239118
In the early days of iOS the PDF viewer was exploited. More recently dev profiles were used to install an application which would gain escalated privs on the system, which could be done through Safari. That type of stuff is so fun.
>>
Good thing iOS 10.1 is out now.
>>
>>57240713
relevant

say what you will about iOS security, but at least they keep their phones up to date.
Google stopped updating the nexus 6, which isn't even an old phone.
>>
Couldn't Apple safely allow root access for developers who pay the $100/year fee? It would make it useless for piracy and nobody could be tricked into paying a hundred bucks so it wouldn't help malware.

D-does this mean that Tyrone can finally access that iPhone?
>>
>>57240972
No. Different security model. This is privilege escalation, the device needs to be unlocked.
>>

>Google stopped updating the nexus 6

That shit is funny. Literally no one uses it and all it provides is explots for madmen.

Why not fucking get rid of this useless shit?
>>
>>57240774
>but at least they keep their phones up to date
lmao you do know that Apple plans obsolescence? I guarantee you've heard at least one person complain that their iPhone 6 is "running slow after the new update"
>>
>>57241035
For the most part, either they're imagining it or the extra few gigs of writes from the update process made their already overworn nand even worse.
>>
>>57241009
The real problem is the use of memory-unsafe programming languages to write image decoders. The only reason this doesn't happen with regular JPEGs and PNGs is that libraries for those formats are tested more. Humans have already demonstrated how bad they are at writing correct code.

If Rust takes off, you will see a lot less of this in future code.

>would make it useless for piracy
Nope. With root you could install Cydia or whatever else you want. There are also some apps that do a jailbreak check. Back in the old days they would check for the existence of certain directories or directory permissions. Also system() with a null argument can be used to see if /bin/sh is present if a 1 is returned as opposed to a 0 on a stock device. I think process forking and dyld functions can also be used. So yeah, if you want a jailbreak then fuck anything like ebay or paypal.

>>57240972
No. iCloud locks are on Apple's iTunes servers. The SN gets blacklisted so that no matter how many times you restore the device stays locked. Also you can't flash without verification from iTunes so there's no way. Jamal still has a paperweight.
>>
>>57241138
By useless for piracy, I mean that anyone who is happy to pay for the dev account is unlikely to need or want to pirate apps.

And yes, some apps wouldn't run on jailbroken devices. This is one one of the many things you would be warned of before going through with the process.

Also it's pretty sad you have to leave a gaping security exploit ready for russian/chinese hackers to stick their dick in just to have basic functionality on an iPhone.

No one pirates iShit apps now anyways. I think Apple is more worried about people figuring out that their "diagnostics" app that always runs in the background is actually a backdoor for the NSA to wander into whenever they feel like it. I have a few iPhones for testing and my first order of business after getting root is to SSH into my devices to delete the shitware in /Applications.

>>57241203
I won't defend Apple and I don't like their products, but the thing I hate more than Applel is stupid, fat weeaboo losers who talk about shit they don't understand on an anonymous image board. Jailbreaking is really not much different than rooting Android when discussing the things that can be done on the liberated devices. Just a reminder that SuperSU is owned by chinks. I've been able to do a fair amount of reverse engineering on Pangu stuff to understand how it works. They're a pretty honest group of ching chongs. A good example to disprove your point about "gaping security holes" is the patch on Cydia that fixes the PDF viewer vulnerability in iOS versions vulnerable to the JailbreakMe tools. If you know which repositories to add, you can patch most stuff by installing a package or two and rebooting. Fuck you and have a nice night.

can you provide some for Windows Phones? legit asking
>>
>>57244207
Just because they haven't been found yet doesn't mean that they don't exist. And besides, why would anyone spend the time to find any? So that they can try to scam the dozen or so people who actually use Windows phones?

Normal rational people:
"I want a phone that does what I need, who ever makes it might not matter for the most part"
Apple shills:
"I want an apple phone, It doesn't matter wither it fits my needs,.. .. STOP POINTING OUT IT"S WEAKNESSES, THE NEWEST IS THE BEST BECAUSE IT'S THE NEWEST AND APPLE MADE IT!"
>>
>>57238143
What makes you think this will result in a public jail break? If I were that guy I'd sell the exploit to zerodium for the $1.5 million bounty.
