Dev mode + root out of the box, you can nuke the stupid indian cross-promotion shit easily. Terminal comes pre-installed.

The android botnet shit I have to run for work - works. The only bitch of a thing to install was fdroid, ended up having to grab android firefox, and then grab a copy from the web.

The browser is middling, the interface is nice, thank god an OS designer threw the browser bar to the bottom of the screen, but it needs to be smoother to be actually good, and also "OPEN IN A NEW TAB BUT DON'T SWITCH TO IT, FUCK". But fuck it, not using this shit much except to browse porn while in bed on wifi. Also firefox works just fine.

Yes it does, but the selection of those is somewhat limited as you don't get access to the Google Play store, just third party ones like the Yandex store. However you can still get some apps only available on the Play store as .apk files, but those applications can't be reliant on Google's proprietary APIs (so they're the same apps that don't work on android forks like paranoid android and cyanogenmod).

As for permissions, I don't see any settings to specifically revoke 'em on an app level.

However unlike Android, when you kill apps, they don't hang around in the background. Like I have discord, it's either open, or it's closed. If it's closed, I ain't getting any notifications from it. There's an option to enable/disable the start of these apps on startup.

Can't speak about Aquafish sw but the phone itself is pretty decently built for the money.

Jolla C android layer works just fine ie. whatsapp notifications work like their supposed to. (if you keep android layer ON)

Using apps from Fdroid, aptoide and downloaded manually some from google play.
