>No Kaby Lake

APPLE IS FINISHED & BANKRUPT
>>
>>
>You people asking why they aren't using kaby lake need to take up a different hobby than computing

Even 5 years after Saint Steve ascended, the RDF is still strong.
>>
>>57216626
So kaby lake is great for laptops since it can play 4k content with low cpu/votage but in terms of desktop it doesn't really matter?
>>
>>57216850
The chart says the performance improvement is for 10 bit 4K HEVC. Most videos you actually play are already accelerated (h264) so it very much an edge case right now.

It might not be in future, but it is likely to be hard to come by for a few years at least.

The VP9 code is actually used by youtube, but almost all videos are also available with h264 encoding so how much difference this will actually make is unknown.
>>
How much of a difference will kaby lake even make and how long will I have to wait?
I was thinking about getting a new desktop and I wanted a 6700k, but if there's a 10% performance improvement coming in a month or so it won't be worth it.

it's rumored to be just as overclockable as skylake, the maximum advantages of Kaby lake are pretty much only low power cpus and the native 4K decoding
>>
does Kaby lake mean playing 4K blu rays is a possibility now or is that completely unrelated?
>>
>>57220960

>but if there's a 10% performance improvement coming in a month

Not happening.
The 10% improvement that was talked about, is because they raised the clocks.
Kaby Lake is going to offer absolutely nothing new, it's just going to be an OCd version of the last generation.
So just go and get the 6700k if you need a new build.
It's going to be good enough for the next decade or so anyways.
>>
>>57221185
That's good, thank you anon.
>>
VP9 AND 10-bit HEVC???!!

Holy fuck. Is AMD offering this with Zen? Kinda thinking about getting an 8-core Zen or an i7 kaby lake. Maybe AMD is not such a good idea...
>>
>>57221206
The only CPU worth waiting for now is the one that comes after silicon
We've already hit the limit of actual CPU power, unless 3D CPU cooling becomes a possibility, now the race is on for lower wattage and more features
>>
>>57221226
What does this mean though
Can't gpus decode shit too?
>>
>>57221290
True.

More like a 10% increase in clock speed, and a 2%ipc increase

t.skylake owner
>>
>>57221380
bull. Kaby Lake has the absolute same IPC as Skylake.
It's basically Skylake shrunk to 14nm+ and a few ff added to the igp.
>>
>>57216618
retard pls
1. Kaby Lake w/ Iris igp isn't out yet
so Apple obv won't have it
2. VP9/HEVC don't matter
No one uses HEVC and no browser supports it.
Safari doesn't even support Webms w/ VP8. So VP9 won't murder your battery.
>>
>>57223060
this.

intel is now holding back computing. monopolies suck.
>>
>>57222873
Sauce?
>>
>>57223060
>No one uses HEVC

You've never seen a 4K video, both online or on physical media, without it.

>no browser supports it

lol?
>>
>>57223755
>You've never seen a 4K video, both online or on physical media, without it.
1. 4K isn't available on the PC
neither Netflix nor Amazon offer 4K streaming for PC
also streaming services suckin general at encoding due to parallel processing with noticable artifacts.
2. 4K is a waste
there's no content produced at 4K and a 13" rmbp is just 3K.
also i can upscale with spline/lanzcos just fine which use superior than those shitty commercial scalers
3. HEVC encoders are shit
x265 still has noticable defects and doesn't offer the constant PQ that x264 can

>lol?
it's true
>>
>>57224626
>1. 4K isn't available on the PC

It is, you fucking retard.
>>
>>57224651
>anon fails at reading comprehension
>>
>>57221178
unrelated
>>
>>57221290
yes but running gpu costs more power, point is power saving, especially on a laptop
>>
>Intel is boasting for its 10-bit HEVC support
>HEVC
AV1 is where its at.
>>
>>57222873
how do you shrink 14nm to 14nm?
magick.
