/g/ - thanks for existing
You lads simply by existing have shown me how good linux can be in comparison to windows, and how superior arch is to ubuntu or other debian-based distributions. Simply by lurking here and making/replying to a few threads, I've been able to figure out whats best for me and my mates who i'm gonna introduce to Linux.
Thanks all of you and hopefully one day we should all see the death of proprietary software :^)
pic above probably isnt arch, just an XFCE setup I like - will be installing arch soon
You probably never tried Debian itself.
The great power of stableness, support and flawlessness would blind you, novice arch user!
Lol enjoy playing games on "Linux" with its suboptimal drivers

Arch is making it too obvious, 4/10.
>>57216019
Some people do real work instead of just playing games. And for work Linux is your best choice.

is one suspecting this is bait
love when I'm accused of bait for just making a normal post kek

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

ok here goes, try change my point of view. I need something similar to antergos - a minimally configured version of the main OS, which has an easy graphic installer and jumps you straight into XFCE - not that xubuntu shit. I just want stock XFCE on debian then. Is that possible? If debian by default has a graphic installer (from what i see it looks alright and simple) then tell me - but whats it like installing a desktop environment for debian or does it have simple installation methods for desktop enviros?
thx

We fail you my son, I'm so sorry...
Linux is for autists and losers. Ask for genuine Microsoft software today.
>>57216048
>And for work Linux is your best choice.
Good god you are delusional.
It's ok for programmers, for the 99% of other people it is total garbage because their software simply does not work on it.
Ok for a non profit organization maybe that can waste shitloads of time not doing anything like the gubberment.

Unless you use real tools, like the ones provided by Microsoft™.
But hey, enjoy gcc and your #729 revision of fizzbuzz.

I mean sure if you like reading blog posts
Or you could use the only documented Linux distro, Arch
>>57216176
fuck off propietaryfag
>>57215967
Enjoy your broken system, soon.

OP here, my understanding is that it's better for laptops and lightweight desktops in terms of resource usage. On a laptop, resource management is the number one priority. If you know a desktop environment that beats XFCE in this area, I'm all ears.
>>57216478
OP here, I agree with you - for me to set up my favourite apps in ubuntu, I had to go everywhere all over the internet and had to add heaps of repos. Now I'm gonna use arch, the AUR is all I need.
>>57216521
elaborate mate
that swirly logo doesn't intimidate me
>>57216139
Just use Arch-Anywhere. Easy install.
How can I make font rendering to look exactly the same as it looks on Windows 7, on Lubuntu? That's pretty much the only thing that keeps me from completely switching (that and porting the hundreds of torrents I'm seeding). Sounds kind of silly but I can't fucking stand all that blurry and stretched text. Maybe it has something to do with using non-proprietary typeface?
>>57216446
What is wrong with gcc?
>>57216525
any tiling wm
>>57216048
Journalist here. I use Linux to edit photos, cut videos, edit sounds, and put them all together into articles. Sounds like real work to me.
>>57216139
yes you can, stock debian has only the basic stuff installed, at the end of the installation process you can select your own desktop environment (or even no environment at all)
>>57216681
Google infintality, should be what your looking for.
>>57216541
What about now?
>>57216923
Pls stop :(

As big of a Linux fan as I may be, you sure walked into that one, bud.
>>57216139
Manjaro has net install if you like arch stuff

Gentoo is well documented, too. And you have several books on how to build your own Linux from scratch. They're called, well...
>>57217572
Why not stick to a kernel that's guaranteed to work with your machine?
