I live near Dow Chemical headquarters. There's a literal city built around that company and their standard issue laptop is a ThinkPad. T420 last I checked, but they've probably moved away from it.

I don't understand why people don't get why Macbooks are commonly used in STEM fields.

It's used quite a lot because it's basically linux with a nice, simple UI, and access to proprietary software that is common in business environments.

Top that with good enterprise level customer support, and a good leasing system and you're gold.

As someone who works in IT Infrastructure and has dealt with a primarily Windows based infrastructure, and a primarily Apple based infrastructure, I'd take Apple every time.

Shit is easy to deal with. Unless you want to use Windows server for everything, (which is a pretty huge security risk, and is not ideal for several enterprise-level applications) you end up using Linux servers, and then trying to bend over backwards to get Microsoft's non-standard way of doing *everything* to work. It's a pain in the ass to get certain basic things working with Windows.

OSX/macOS is like a dream, because generally speaking, it's easy to work with Linux with it.

Any time I've had to work in a multi-platform environment, Windows has always been the pain in the ass to deal with.

Still good, go check bench tests of the enwer shit, they stopped focusing on faster and better, and are now making things lighter and longer lasting battery. Most CPUs in the new lenovo stuff are benching around the same as the i7 you've got, but they do it at 40% of the power needed from yours, generate less heat. 16gb of ram is still enough for most any laptop for business purposes, and ssd is cheap to throw in nowadays also, you're still good to go
