Hey /g/, it's my first time on this board so please forgive my newfaggotry.
With the recent attacks on social media sites like Twitter, and the increasing tension in the US + threats of cyber attacks, I am afraid that I will not be able to keep in contact with some of my friends across the pond. Does anybody know a really secure way to communicate with with your friends, like an email service? If most of the internet goes down or becomes overregulated, what will stay up?
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer.

Didn't whatsapp decide to share info with Facebook recently
Problem is I am in the USA and the person I need to keep in touch with is in Britain. So if everything went down, we would have no way of keeping in contact.

get a 1000W+ ham radio and develop a packet sharing protocol to transmit pgp-encrypted messages.
