I can understand going cheap if you're the kind of person who gets a new phone every quarter, but when I get a new phone I look at it as a long term investment (2 years or more), so I'm willing to pay for something that will last that long. My current phone is a Nexus 6, which I picked up last year for about $600, and it still does everything I would want to do on a smartphone, so I see no point in upgrading.
