How is the verge a paid review. Normally they are very critical on android phones. They are apple biased and of the top of my head the galaxy s7 is the only other android phone to get a 9.

It's wrong. it's for data, not voice. chinkphones won't work on the U.S aside from a few shitty models.

>Previously google worked with manufacturers to develope a phone together. This time everything from the software to hardware is 100 percent googles input. Its only being manufactured by HTC but is not an "HTC Phone"
lowlevel firmware done and signed by HTC and not Google says otherwise. this is a nexus in everything but name.

also Google claims there's a firewall between Android and the hardware team (which is even led by the ex-CEO of Motorola). so Google's own spin doesn't make sense as it can't be 100% when there's a firewall.
>>
Is Google trying to make its phones the android equivalent of the iPhone?
>>
>>57153673
then it would be released in the spring when Qualcomm usually releases their newest generation of SoCs.
now it's a 6-months outdated SoC generation. that made sense for affordable Nexus, but doesn't for supposedly flagship devices.

No heating issues for me, famalam. Just don't use the phone while charging. I'm not sure if you can disable QC if rooted/custom ROM'd.

Only issue I've had so far is the wifi battery usage (see >>57150909 ) which isn't too terrible, 20% over 40 hours, or about 12% a day. Not bad, but I'm still in possession of my last phone and it drops about 1% every 3 hours just sitting at home on the same Wi-Fi network.

If I could fix it I could probably crank another hour out of the battery being lost to Wi-Fi.
>>
>>57152248
The best thing about iphone is the processor. It takes years for other processors like snapdragon and kirin to catch up to the performance of Apple's processors. The worst thing about them is the OS, which is locked down, almost all apps need to be paid for (which are free on android) and some basic functionality is missing unless you jailbreak it. People also call you gay for owning one, so that's another plus.
>>
>>57155396
What is the point of having the top of the line CPU on an iPhone anyway? The 820 is already too powerful for everything except extreme gaming, and even the 650/652 chips are enough to have CPU power and solid battery.

I guess future proofing, but a phone with a 805 from nearly 3 years ago can still hold up with typical tasks.
>>
>>57155483
>What is the point

There is no point, current processors are too powerful for phones anyway, my phone with 810 still never lags. The thing is that normies tend to not take care of their phones very well and they tend to slow down because of it, so they blame it on the processor and go for the next fastest phone, which is almost always the iphone. There's also features, each new processor supports new features like VR, vulkan or whatever. The processors we have nowadays are comparable to PC processors in the past, phone hardware right now is overpowered for the tasks they handle.

The market needs a good 4" device. The only 4" smartphone that isn't obsolete by now is the iPhone SE and it's still shit because of the locked down iOS. People would buy a 4" in 2016, trust me.

its a small market. Everyone these days want bigger phones, media consumption is a big deal now. With that said I agree there should be a good iPhone SE equivalent on android.

People only want what the producers want them to want. Believe me, if someone makes a really good 4" smartphone for a reasonable price (as in <$250), people will tear their hands off for it. It just seems people want bigger phones because there's nothing but big phones on the market today.

I used to think this way until I went back to using my old HTC One V for a two weeks while on vacation, after two years on my Moto G (RIP) and 3 months on my HTC 10. Yes it is really nice to carry around such a small phone, you barely notice it in your pocket but FUCK ME you make so many typos on the tiny screen. The lack of real estate is infuriating. It really made me appreciate 5"+ screens and I can see why so many people prefer them.

I thinking of buying chinkphone. It has partial European LTE coverage (no B20 (800 DD)) and full compatibility with the rest. People say here, that I'd have shit connection. Can someone explain to tech illiterate like me what exactly that means?

Would I actually have shit connection and reception or you only mean access to LTE perks while 2g 3g speed work fine?

Does this only apply to internet or to calls and messaging as well?

Basically my question is: will my phone struggle with its basic functions, or it would just be difficult to access super fast internet?

I had to use an old HTC Touch 2 with 2.8" screen and a resistive touch display. I immediately fell in love with its overall size. The display could be bigger, though I had no problems with typing. I had to grow my fingernails a little more than usual, though.

I do understand some people want big phones because they might have a bad eyesight, or fat sausage fingers, or need the screen space for web browsing or watching movies. I'm not saying it's a bad thing phones of these sizes exist. I'm just saying it's a bad thing that small phones basically ceased to exist on the market. I have no problems with typing, I have good eyesight, I browse in a fucking Opera Mini, and I only watch movies on a phone very, very rarely. I have zero need for a big screen.

Concerning the battery life, I fail to see how is that a problem. Just don't put a fucking fullHD into a fucking phone. 720p or even 480x854 is more than enough. Also, the phone doesn't have to be so thin. At around 4", it really doesn't matter if it's 10 mm thick or 20 mm.

Touchwiz or whatever their shitty version of android is. Samsung phones go to shit really fast, as a guy who owned a lot of samsung phones their batteries die out fast and they start to become unresponsive. So is the iPhone and iPad really as terrible as people say? I happened to stop by the AT&T store a few days ago just to look at some phones. Dicked around with s7 and iPhone 7 and the newest iPAD. I've got to say that the iPhone was pretty damn snappy and the iPAD was actually very nice to use. I really don't think I would even miss anything from Android OS. Yeah, I think I'll go with the G4 as opposed to the Redmi Note 3 Pro..

I have no experience with ordering from China and don't want to end up getting shafted by customs. The base price is fine but customs & VAT would easily push the price over 200€.

The EU warehouses stock it for the same more or less.
The G4 I could get from an local retailer for 200€ as well.

Given you could get them for the same price, which would you guys get? G4 or Redmi Note 3 Pro?

Can you guys please explain or give more info about that phone?
I am undecided between nexus 5x, p9 lite and axon 7 mini, main reason is because my old galaxy s4 is dying and i don't want to spend more than 300€ for a device i use only for basic tasks like socials and VSCO, and i'm quite worried about the quality of xiaomeme phones.
I'm looking for a phone with 5"-5.5"1080p screen, nice camera, notification led and fingerprint reader

How do I filter ebay to look for broken or used phones? All I get are cases holy shit. Are there any sellers you guys suggest for working used, refurbished or cracked phones?
>>
>>57172164
look for defective phones maybe? I know that you can explicitly search for broken or defective phones on ebay. There should be a filteroption for that.

>For instance, is there a design reason that the $500 Huawei Nexus 6P had stereo speakers and the $750 Pixel XL does not? Or is the reason that stereo speakers are not part of HTC's current lineup and therefore were not among the parts Google had to choose from? Is there a design reason the Pixel doesn't have waterproofing, when its direct competitors from Samsung and Apple do? Or is the reason that HTC didn't have a pre-made waterproofing solution available, so the option was not made available to Google? Is there a design reason why the bottom bezel is so large? Or is the reason that HTC phones typically have a fingerprint sensor or hardware buttons down there, so the parts made available to Google accounted for this?
WTF I love Ars Technica now

You can specify the search to include only used items on the left panel after searching for something. Click on auction and not the buy it now option, then sort items by ending soonest.

Literally any phone can do this, you don't need a specific kind of phone to perform these things. If you want a really good cheap phone then get the older Oneplus (oneplus X or One, can't remember), which has a microSD slot. Either that or get an Axon. Some people on here like xiaomi phones, but after the whole analytics incident I'd advise you to stay away from their phones.

The 6GB RAM are pretty good (S7 Edge and Pixel both have just 4GB), and the full HD screen is reasonably high DPI too.

More importantly, it doesn't have a locked bootloader.

I've got one and I love it. I do not like upgrading often, so these were decisive factors.
