Apple re-invents the keyboard

Why would it? The OS (or possibly even the keyboard itself) would handle interpreting the keystrokes as the user has configured then those keystrokes would be sent to the application. The application doesn't know that your home row is oíæç or whatever stupid setting you decide, just that it received the letter h the kernel.

You are retarded, but I'll explain it to you anyway, since apparently you never passed 3rd grade.
Mean is the average; sum divided by cardinality.
Median is the middle answer; list out all the numbers in the set in ascending order then select the one in the center.
Mode is the number in the set that occurs most frequently.

this.

if you are planning to become proficient doing 3d (ie), you've got to learn to use efficiently a dozen different programs ,each one with its own keyboard shortcuts. you can memorize easily the most used ones, but is always better have an easily accessible cheat sheet for the rest.
>>
>>57148867
>but is always better have an easily accessible cheat sheet for the rest.
It would be equally slow than just navigating through the menus
The purpose of shortcuts it's to use them fast, needing to look down at your keyboard or at a cheat sheet defeats this purpose
>>

>It would be equally slow than just navigating through the menus

uh no, with the cheat sheet you can learn the keys, and recognition is much faster than recall

we don't need fucking displays on keys, we need to get away from QWERTY-style staggered rows and towards orthogonal key layout.

I don't think typebars have existed since the '80s, so keyboards don't have any real need to have keys arranged as if they do.

Fuck, just have everyone agree to shift the rows by 1 mm every 5 or 10 years until they're aligned if people bitch and moan too much.

What's the point of this? Seems like a gimmick. Reminds me of the heart rate monitor on the S7. Sounded neat, but was a useless gimmick that no one used except for novelty reasons.

Why would you want this? Like the function keys have logos to the websites you hotkey, but you honestly can't just remember them?

The only real benefit I see from this is different languages. Makes it easy on everyone, too. Apple doesn't have to sell different laptops for each language and you can let non English speakers use it in their language.

>>
>>57151891
switching to dvorak would be a million times easier if you could glance at the keyboard and actually see the key that it represents.

any time you switch keyboards or use a modifier or anything you could glance at the keyboard and see what's available. we really marginalize the importance of the keyboard but if it could show us useful information once in a while then a lot of square inches would suddenly become useful.

>switching to dvorak would be a million times easier if you could glance at the keyboard and actually see the key that it represents.

it's actually worse.

because your hands obscure the letters on the keys, you're moving your hands away from the keyboard to do that. it's better to have a copy of the keyboard layout posted within view.
>>
>>57155377
if you're in a position where you need to confirm that the key 5 spaces to the right of the tab key is Y (and not T), then this obsession with speed is already kind of a lost cause.

you should get to the point that you feel comfortable touch typing, but if your instinct is to look where you're about to press to confirm that it's the key you want, and you look and it's showing the wrong glyph, then that's only going to stymie your progress rewiring your brain.

have the layout in view if you want as well, but the worst thing you can say about configurable keyboard keys is that they allow you to also look at the keys, which is a truly weak criticism.

learnt dvorak for RSI, not speed.
>>
>>57155508
... then why does it matter to you that you're moving your hands away from your keyboard to refresh your memory of the keyboard layout?
>>
>>57155515

slows down one's ability to learn to touch type dvorak while learning they layout, because one's hands are leaving the home row continously.

Educate yourself on the history of the crimean peninsula and you will find that Russia actually has perfect valid reasons for getting that part of their country back.
Sure, the execution was a little bit heavyhanded, but fuck me, I'd rather support Russia's Imperialism (which is at least honest) than support the US' imperialism.

So Germany has perfect valid reasons for getting those parts of their country back?
>>

People who touch type:
The ones who play MMOs and the ones that intensively shitpost in IMs and social media(4chan is slower by design).
>>
>>57155911
are you serious or do you really need us to point out that the OP is the person claiming apple invented anything? or that basically every company basically just makes existing inventions marketable?

this has to be a joke, right?
>>
>>57155930

No, we don't. We have right now basically the geographic part that in the 1800s vowed to unify under the Kaiser at that time.
Prussia was always a part that did not really want to belong to Germany but did so for various reasons. Culturally they were really different.

Hitler fucked it all up, Poland, Austria never belonged to Germany so we have no claim.

Crimea was taken from Russia as a gift to some fucker for political reasons.

"re-invents"

You retarded sheep. They bought the company who produced those keyboards for years now. Apple doesnt innovate anything but you capitalistic fuck run after them and throw your money at them no matter what and come online to brag about their "crativity" and their "courage" to try out revolutionary tech.

This is meaningless.
Only use I can think of would be games.
But you aren't going to fucking game on a macbook.

you reinforce by doing. lifting your hands slows that reinforcement, introduces an action that will later be thrown away and reduces the amount of reinforcement possible in any given time period.

Why do I get the feeling that the only people that'll make any sense to are those who don't need it.

underrated post

post yfw the whole keyboard is just one big force touch display

Imagine if each key has fingerprint scanner fast enough to read even just a fast tap. Even if someone has your password they can't get into your computer.
>>
>>57157505
>input password with pencils
>???
>>
>>57157505
That's retarded. What if you need someone else to type something on your computer?
>>
>>57157521
>no fingerprints detected, access denied

>>57157525
Then it works perfectly normal because in this case it applies to passwords?
>>
>>57157525
it's for your own safety
>>
>>57157505
This would also help with "tradition keyboards can have their input recognized by listening to the taps through a mic" vulnerbility people are starting to throw around.

Instead of having a password you just scan x amount of fingers by laying them softly on random keys.
>>
>Apple faggy gimmick becomes a Hitler Thread
I'm proud of you /g/oim
>>
>>57157533
>>57157571
Then why not just have one fingerprint scanner somewhere else on the computer instead of on every single key?

there's a lot of research on this and while you may anecdotally feel this way, it's not the consensus that education researchers have arrived at. but at best, you're making a case that this is just an extra - one that, if you're so convinced is unnecessary, you can disable.

this entire discussion is stupid. if you want a separate layout cheat sheet, go ahead.

I feel like apple would be the ones to do this right. Though maybe without steve jobs they will fuck it up.

I'm just waiting for the first piece of hardware that somehow combines the physicality of buttons with the diverse UI options of touch screens.

>Apple doesn't have to sell different laptops for each language and you can let non English speakers use it in their language.
Except they will still have to sell ANSI/ISO/Chinese/Korean/double half shift keyboards, because otherwise they won't be compatible with the country standards, no matter how many emojis they add to each key. The expensive part isn't getting different keys, but to have different chassis, which they will have to for ANSI/ISO.
