Is Zen still /g/'s most recommended processor for price/performance?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Is Zen still /g/'s most recommended processor for price/performance? I want to build a 3d modelling workstation and need lots of cores.

Sure, if you want sandy bridge ipc.

At least buy a xeon if you're serious about your work.
>>
>>57140711
Zen will likely only be a competitive product for virtualization workloads. If the price is right on their desktop offerings though it could be an alternative.

Sandy Bridge IPC is still better than most Intel Extremes! Plus I get 8 of those!
>>
>>57140711
We don't know. It isn't out yet.
>>
>>57140759
You mean you werent part of the secret club AMD already released it to?
>>
>>57140750
No it isn't.

Skylake is at least 30% faster.

Prove me wrong, go cherrypick some benchmarks.

Skylake is better in IPC but Zen is on par with Broadwell-E which makes it better for multicore applications

but maybe for muh games that only use 1 thread Intel is just better, I can give it that.
>>
>>57140816
If you want to base performance off a core count like an idiot, then Intel still wins.

>$3000 CPU

Why is this relevant?
>>
>>57140862
Are you implying that zen will offer competitive performance to a 40c80t xeon while costing less than a consumer i7?
>>
>>57140903
AMD compared it to a 6900k
so im expecting a 6900k at a consumer i7 price, yeah.
>>
>>57140903
>40c xeon

wut

Purley is only 28c

Prepare to be disappointed.

I thought fx8150 was good. I was wrong.

I now have zero expectations from known so I won't be disappointed when they release yet another failure.
>>
It will have lower IPC than Kaby Lake.
Expect all Zen CPUs to have lower perfomance than the Pentium G4620 (which has 3.8 GHz) in single threaded applications.
>>
Zen will be a failure just as Polaris was.
>>
>>57141080
b-but the RX480 has a 0.20% marketshare on Steam!

That means people actually bought it!

Even if we had access to final clocked versions, which we don't, we don't know anything about prices yet - so couldn't answer anything about price/performance.

Yeah but do you have smash 4? Or the Mario level maker thing? Console games are generally more enjoyable imo.

Yeah ik, I saw that, pretty impressive. I think it's slightly more comfy to sit on a couch and play fun games with friend(s) than to sit at a desk in ts or mumble(which I think is the second most comfy thing ever).
