only good reason to go for lamy. the refills are crap and the nib is similar to the pilot disposables.

Currently using pilot metro and I have a twsbi mini ordered. In the end I find paper more important than the nib but I only use blue/black ink so nib quality doesn't matter either way

I use exclusively Pilot's Iroshizuku line, they're pretty popular as well, although expensive if you don't order from sites like Engeika. Also use Rohrer and Klignger Salix and Scabiosa 1:1 mix when I need permanence. Because Noodler's melts everything and is very bad.

J Herbin makes nice inks. Poussiere de Lune was the besets color in the whole world, but then due to stupid EU regulations they changed the formula and now it's shit. The last of the original formula I'll ever have is in my pen right now )^:

Also Rohrer and Klingner make some pretty decent inks, Scabiosa is another nice dusty desaturated purple, but as it ages it gets darker to a burgundy that's not great imo. Salix is a nice faded blue too, though it darkens over time to dark blue/black. Both are permanent and somewhat waterproof, but they're iron gall inks so you do need to keep your pen cleaned if you use them. Accidentally left Scabiosa in my Lamy 2000 for a few months and it managed to leak into the cap and etched the metal at the tip of the barrel.

Noodler's is okay but some bleed pretty bad or have other issues. Pilot of course makes nice ink.

Pelikan Edelstein inks are okay but a bit over priced and boring colors.


Just order a shit load of samples from Goulet or somewhere and test them all out, it's great fun.

like I said before paper is the most important aspect for writing. No less then 75 gsm and can't be glossy.
