Why do people not use their browsers or windows in full screen and instead do something like pic related?
Why do people have their taskbar at the top instead of bottom?
Where do Linux and OSX users put their shortcuts?
I have icons on the bottom right such as steam and qbittorent, but where do linux user put thiers at?
>>
>Where do Linux and OSX users put their shortcuts?
For macOS, I put them into the dock.
>>
It depends on the size of the screen.
On my 13" laptop I use the browser fullscreen, have the taskbar hidden.

>shortcuts
press windows/super key and type the first 2-3 letters of the program you want to run, its faster than using the mouse

>taskbar at top
I like mine on the right or left side, some desktop enviroments allows merging taskbar with menu bar of the maximized window so it makes sense that its on top in that case
>>
>>57136702

that is the 10th most autistic desktop

congratulations
>>
>>57136702
>Why do people not use their browsers or windows in full screen and instead do something like pic related?
Because my desktop has a monitor with a 3440x1440 resolution. A full screen browser with that is just retarded. I usually have two to three windows open side by side thanks to all of the real estate.

It's much faster to press alt+space and write what I want on Krunner.

Lots of (if not most) websites aren't great in widescreen

Who knows

I use Alfred.

>Why do people not use their browsers or windows in full screen and instead do something like pic related?
More efficient and allows you to have other things open next to it. If your monitor is 1080p or greatest resolution, chances are most web pages have a lot of empty space when maximized anyway.

>Why do people have their taskbar at the top instead of bottom?
I like having the panel at the top. It's refreshing, and there aren't really any downsides since I don't use anything like a start menu anyway. Also, if you have window titles enabled, this means all yours bars are at the top so the bottoms of windows can touch the bottom of the screen instead of being sandwiched.

>Where do Linux and OSX users put their shortcuts?
I use openbox, so anything that really needs a shortcut is in my openbox menu, that I open by hitting super-space or right clicking on my desktop or panel. Most programs don't need shortcuts, though, because they are in the $PATH. This basically means that they're in a list of places your terminal looks in by default, so just typing 'firefox' into a terminal launches it, for example. Aside from the openbox menu I often use dmenu to launch things. Think of it like the run box on windows. It's running a terminal command for me but not leaving a terminal open behind.

>I have icons on the bottom right such as steam and qbittorent, but where do linux user put thiers at?
Those are on my panel on the right side, same as yours. (pic related)

Tha answer to almost all your questions is "They started with, or have since learned, a better way of doing things than the one you have stuck with".
Some of us get past our first exposure to tech and learn other stuff. Some cling to the first thing they learned, terrified of having to change their thinking. It was hard enough the first time, imagine what the new, strange learning will be like.

What is the point of using a WM when most DEs (as well as Windows) have window snapping?
>>
>>57137100
so, what should be, in your opinion, the pixel width of a browser to be optimal? I just tried to make the browser half the screen and realized that your are right, at least on 4chan.
>>
>>57136702

like most people i have a widescreen monitor and it's uncomfortable to read text in full screen window, I like to keep window pretty square for internet browsing.

I don't like the taskbar on top of the screen, I think a lot of lincucks honestly want their shit to look like a mac

people also try to make their screen look l337 as fuck when they take screen caps to post on /g/ or whatever, and I can respect that

when I take screencaps I make sure I have a few patrician tabs etc
>>
>>57139542

Depends on your monitor's resolution and size. My browser is about 1250px wide on a 2560x1440 27" screen.
>>
i don't need my browser to take up the whole screen, i just find it easier to navigate and read if it's smaller

i like having my menus on top because... idk, looks better to me

i don't use shortcuts, i have my most used apps bound to the F keys because i basically don't have any other use for F keys anyway, or i just type stuff into the app finder
>>
I pin my most used programs to the taskbar and use win+1-9 to launch them, for everything else I just hit the windows key and type the name of the program

I like this post. It looks genuinely curious.
>Why do people not use their browsers or windows in full screen and instead do something like pic related?
Desktop thread fags that want to show off their tiling windows manager, firefox/desktop enviroment customization and wallpaper at the same time.
I doubt they use it like that fulltime.

>Why do people have their taskbar at the top instead of bottom?
For OS and many linux desktop enviroment is default.
It's mainly about aesthetic.
I use it on the right on windows, and don't have any taskbar on linux.

>Where do Linux and OSX users put their shortcuts?
The recycle bin.
Visually scanning the desktop for the right icon is slower than pressing windows, or any equivalent in different os, and typing the first few letters of the program.

>I have icons on the bottom right such as steam and qbittorent, but where do linux user put thiers at?
You mean the tray icons?
Linux panels support them, so whenever the panel (taskbar) is.

Depends on the size of the screen and personal preferences.

For example, standard of 1080p is pretty wide, so it makes it easy to keep software/etc windowed and on screen instead of keep them maximized on screen. Personally, I still use 1050p monitor and still think that higher resolutions have everything too small to read from comfortable distance.

As for taskbar, OSX, if I recall correctly, had it on the top. Debian, which was supposed to look similar, also have taskbar on the top by default.

As for shortcuts, people on Linux distros usually just launch everything from keyboard. At work, where I have Win10, I also noticed that I launch most software by Start Menu search function, but I keep shortcuts on desktop for folders and some software. I noticed that people posting on desktop threads have some kind of phobia about icons on desktops, somehow.

Once again - it is all about preferences. It is your "personal computer" after all. Make it personal.

And for the love of God, dont do something just because /g/ told you to.

they don't. they use something like launchy or animegirl@maiwaifu:-$ [program]
>I have icons on the bottom right such as steam and qbittorent, but where do linux user put thiers at?
believe it or not, but most DEs actually have notification areas in their taskbars as well.

i really, really wish my 2500k supported vt-d so i could use PCI passthrough instead of windows.

But I almost never fullscreen my browser, not comfy for me

>Why do people have their taskbar at the top instead of bottom?
Don't know, to each his own

>Where do Linux and OSX users put their shortcuts?
We don't, we have application menus
It is possible to put them on the Desktop if you feel like it though, but I never do it (mostly because I think the Desktop should be reserved to only what you're working on right now)

>I have icons on the bottom right such as steam and qbittorent, but where do linux user put thiers at?
There's something similar in Debian based distros on the bottom left

I use tiling so space is always used to it's full capacity. That shit in OPs pic is for autistic weaboos.

I have no shortcuts, I tipe the first 3 letters of the program, hit tab 1-3 times and enter.

Some people work with their hands on the keyboard 90% of the time. It really is faster, unless you are a heavy mouse user.

Me? Reducing the need of moving my hand outside the keyboard goes easier on my wrists and elbow.

>Why do people have their taskbar at the top instead of bottom?
I dont.

I have a dock that hovers over everything. Its not really a pain because windows fit to the panel below it.
>I have icons on the bottom right such as steam and qbittorent, but where do linux user put thiers at?

Also, to answer:
In windows:
Most frequently used: win > first letters or win + [taskbar position]
Others organized by theme in the start menu (and this is the reason why 8 and 10 start menus are infinitely better than previous start menus).

On linux alt+f2 > first letters, or even inbetween letters.

What do you even mean with "don't forget them?"
It's not like I use a program for its own sake. When I need to do something, I already know what program I'm gonna need. How can I forget a program?
What's the reasoning?
"Huh, it's been a while since I've used audacity, let's launch it so it doesn't feel alone". I mean, what the fuck.
If I need to edit an audio clip I know I'm gonna need Audacity.
Do you have the brain of a goldfish? Do you need to google every time "how to open a txt file"?
What the fuck.

the only reason to do it in windows is because the taskbar sucks and has never worked right ever in any version of windows to date
autohide always fucks up and will not pop up or pop down
and now that they have eliminated the ability to resize the taskbar to zero in the last 3 or 4 windeows versions
when it glitches and does not autohide it can and does block buttons in your browser and other porgrams
