I'm about to buy one extra stick of RAM that is only 2GB since I'm currently low on money.
It's $10.50 and since I already own 6GB (3x2GB sticks) this would complete my minimum spec requirements for most games.
The only question I have is that my current RAM runs at 665MHz, while this one runs at much higher. This won't be a problem right?
Here is my Speccy section of my current RAM setup.
By the way, is 40% Ram usage alright? It seems a bit high for idle activity.

Depending on your mobo it'll just downclock it to run with the slower ram, but 665 doubled is 1333 so you shouldn't be affected.
I recommend not mix and matching ram though.

It's the same speed.
40% is high for a clean reboot. Windows should take ~1.2GB, not 2.4.

Is there any way to check exactly what is using up that much RAM?
Firefox has only using 555,000K at most, everything else is below that.

Post screenshot of your processes tab, sorted by RAM use. 600MB in Firefox is going to account for most of that 1.2-->2.4GB, but let's see if you have any crap in there.

I try to keep it as empty as possible by disabling most startup programs.
If youre that fucking poor that buying the lowest end of ram, not to mention that it is only 2gbs, and more importantly, your goal is to meet the minimum requirements for le gaymes, you should seriously reaccess your existence, faggot.

just hide the thread if you get mad at others choices.
i dont plan on building on this PC for long, it's beyond help i'd be better off building a new one since everything is so old, but im not rolling in dough at the moment to make that leap just yet.

Well, I suppose Steam and Battle.net explain it.

ticking the all users box reveals a ton of svchosts and conhosts from system32, but i doubt i can do anything about that.
hopefully the extra 2GB of RAM lower the relative usage to 20% at least.
Thanks for clarifying though.

You can disable services to get that down.

No, that is way too high for idle. Run an antivirus or reinstall windows.
>>57132260
i'll do a scan, i doubt it's anyhting malicious though or else my PC would have been dead by now.
The 40% thing has been happening for a very long time, almost 2 years.

>he falls for the XXXTREME WATER COOLING GAYMAN RAM meme
Only a moron doesn't buy the cheapest RAM available.
>>57132310
If you're good with it it's fine. Unused ram is wasted ram I guess.
>>57131683
Why do broke NEETs constantly make threads for their bullshit.
>>57132345
closing the biggest programs got me down to 23%, that's pretty good for as idle as i can get.
>>57131683
Don't do it. I had exactly the same ram and it died like a week after i received it from Amazon
