ITT: your dream laptop

>6" e-ink display with backlight

>designed for programming in CLI mode only
>fully featured keyboard with nav cluster, no touchpad or gimmicks
>no fans or moving parts
>1 week battery life

color e-ink with a refresh rate of 60hz would be insane
>>
>>57111368
That and a nice wireless card that lets me on the cellular networks for cheap so I can have a machine that I can ssh into workstations from outside in the sun. Wouldn't mind a bigger screen at the cost of lower refresh rate though.

>3:2 display but can physically change to 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, 21:9 etc. using Samsung's prototype "transformable display"
>Laptop isn't heavy but it's light,small and well-built
>Battery lasts for 30 hours even while playing Crysis 3 at 8K@240fps
>Laptop never overheats and stays at cool temperatures at all times while making no fan noise whatsoever(whether this is achievable by Liquid Cooling or Voodoo Magic I don't give a shit)

make the bezels a little more modern though

infact the X can become fanless with the next few years as core M gets better.

I just want an update to my NC100.

I don't use it anymore but ten years ago I wrote a large portion of my university work on Paleolithic Mid-European Archaeology and Anthropology on it and it served me well.

Poor thing has an issue now where unless you squeeze the case real hard the display is just a garbled mess but I keep it around anyway, thing is like an old friend.

I guess a more up to date screen, better battery life and more than 1MB of storage would be something I could use.

Instant on/off, replaceable batteries, Serial and Parallel ports, relatively robust, didn't have to worry too much about it getting dirty, built-in dictionary, calculator, calender, word processing, spreadsheets and BASIC programming meant that it could do absolutely everything I needed, anywhere I needed and for hard-copy it just connected direct to the office printer.

Man, I'd actually love an updated one these.

>>
>>57119504

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Thinkpad T420 with a modern top tier processor, something like a Skylake 6700HQ or better and a GPU that allows for gaming at 2560x1600 with high settings. I put a dbrand skin on mine, matte black without a logo cutout (looks very similar to pic related but doesn't have the leather bumps). Never buying from those jews again but with the key lighting set to white or off I easily have the slickest looking laptop in class.

All Razer would have to do to make the Blade 16 the literal perfect laptop:
> Take out retarded logo, chroma key lighting (it's still not perfect when you set it to white, as the keyboard enters gaymer mode until Synapse kicks in after logging in).
> Make the USB ports black instead of green
> Make the up/down arrows bigger
> Make the screen 1080p and a 16:10 aspect ratio with no touch screen and smaller bezels
> Better track pad with native windows drivers
> Make the surface less conducive to the body's natural oils (palm/wrist rest areas, the lid look awful unless you're really careful with them)
> Bigger/faster SSD
> a few more hours of battery life

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. No, you autists can't add to my list, and yes, Windows 10 is staying on the laptop. This could absolutely murder the mbp if these changes were made. I'd even be fine with them going down to a 1060 to meet the list. This is my dream laptop and it is undeniable sex tier GOAT.

the new one, that's available for preorder now, has a matte 1080p ips screen (but it's 16:9, with the same shit bezels). It's pretty much perfect, just reduce bezels (or make the screen bigger than 14 in), remove the buttons from the track pad, and include a windows 7 option

I actually haven't gamed too much on it since I'm busy with schoolwork so I can't attest to heat dissipation. I was having trouble running overwatch but I think it's because I have not properly configured battery settings for max performance when I want to game. Once I figure that out it'll be that much better.

I've heard the 1060 kicks ass in it, and 1080p gaming is absolutely no problem on it (check out Dave Lee's video on it on youtube). If I were in your situation, I wouldn't think twice and buy the $1800 config. It really is a beauty of a laptop and if storage is still replaceable, then you can upgrade it to 1tb for dirt cheap in a couple years. I could see that config lasting me 5 years, easy. Do it and I guarantee you will not regret it :)

Not really. Using an SSD, 2gb of RAM and a lightweight gnu/linux distro was pretty much perfect for that generation of atom processor.

I still have mine, it's been on pretty much 24/7 ever since I got it and I traveled thousands of kilometers with it. I only replaced its HDD with a cheap SSD and added a 1Gig RAM stick. Its battery is fucked, though and its fan is starting to make some awful noises.

For me, the take with me laptop would be this.

1) 4 usb 3 ports, all of which can work 100%
2) gpu that is capable of sending out 4k60
3) possibly mechanical keyboard, though not cherry style switches
4) pocketable
5) wifi with cell service useable
6) e ink screen

My use for this is just being ultra portable so I can get some shit done when an idea comes to mind, and pack it in quickly when done.

My ideal laptop is this

1) 1920x1200 screen at 19 inches.
2) able to fold it into a tablet and use it like a drawing pad with at least good huion level of sensitivity.
3) full mechanical keyboard that is user replaceable
4) 6 mini display ports
5) full pc gpu with proper cooling
6) full desktop cpu with proper cooling
7) 6 100% useable usb 3 ports
8) easy to access cleaning for the heat sinks
9) 1tb ssd, full size hdd for up to 10 tb
10) at most 10 minutes of battery life

Please note, this is a desktop replacement, its not meant to be ultra portable, its meant to be a more portable computer then normal computers are. This would/could power an entire battle station, then be able to be moved from home to an office for work, then back home.

High end netbook... Panasonic thinknote(?), I guess.

Don't care about gaming, don't care about blazing fast speed(shit, a basic i3 would be fine) just want it optimized to be really durable, small(10" @1080p) and have good battery life. Lots of i/o is good too. 3 USB ports and maybe whatever platform external GPUs use(not necessarily for gaming, though if I could plug in a card to atleast do some lightweight stuff like civ v, thatd be cool.)
