>paid for VPN 10 months ago
>been downloading the shit out of various stuff off public torrents
>this past Friday I received a notice of infringement
>mfw
>been trying to figure out how they found me
>VPN support says they don't keep records and don't reply to DMCA since they're not based in the US
>been offline for 2 days trying to figure out what went wrong and was pulling my hair
>figured out an hour ago that some Arch update, from few weeks ago, somehow delete my config and left IPv6 enabled and networking was leaking my real IPv6 address through qB
>finally disabled it
be careful boys.

Another Arch success story.

well, updates can fuck you up. in some instances, really badly. this incident taught me a lesson though.
I had no fuckign idea torrent clients were advertising both the ipv4 and ipv6 IPs! my VPN was configured for ipv4 only and they don't even support ipv6. but torrent clients still find a way.
I just got a standard warning from the ISP telling me about copyright and shit. never got one of those before. was afraid that they were gonna sue me or something but after reading about it on forums, it seems they don't do shit to you.
still, this was fucking scary because I'm extremely careful what I torrent and how.
now I can finally get some sleep... for 2 nights I slept like shit worrying.
>>57109658
sleep tight anon
And this is why nobody will ever take Linux seriously.
>he fell for the vpn meme
What third world shit holes do you live in?
I have torrented terabytes of media directly through my ISP and never heard a fucking thing from them
>god bless America
Speaking of VPNs, has the Opera Dev VPN been down for anyone else? It hasn't worked for me for a couple weeks now.
>>57109658
My ISP (Time Warner) only uses IPv4. Not sure why. I try to not torrent so much. Only older rare shit and don't seed. And I use TPB of all places. I understand your anxiety. Not sure if TWC even gives a shit either. I hear a lot of bad shit about verizon and comcast. I doubt if anyone would come after you, unless your name is YIFY.

>he fell for the meme OS literally only good for ricing with less than 2% marketshare meme
>>57109748
>What third world shit holes do you live in?
This desu. I live in Australia and am with the largest telco (Telstra) and never had anything.
>>57109545
Arch, not even once.
Install Gentoo. It protects all your configs by default.
>>57109748
I'm cucknadian and proud to prep the bull!
>>57109720
>>57109545
Just curious, you run as root or as a user? Harder to accidentally fuck up something as user.
>>57109820
Not today anon-kun. Not today.
>>57109720
>>57109779
> RIAA asks Telstra for a list of IPs that are torrenting
> Telstra techs take eight months to respond
> instead of IPs it's a list of MLP fanfic sites plus a spreadsheet for replacement lightbulb costs at their Sydney office
sometimes it's good to be with the terminal fuckups.
>>57109895
>RIAA
These fuckers think its still 1969. And who the fuck are they to ask another country for this? american laws don't apply here.
>>57109545
>not setting up SOCKS5 inside your torrent program in addition
you're a retard
>>57109974
this and you're also a retard for not binding your torrent program to your TAP/TUN device in the first place. Totally deserved. This proves how retarded arch users are.

alternatives, like Win10, are fucking garbage though. Win10 VPN clients all suck for example.

Comcast does!

>Austfailia
wait till US State Department forces your prison island to respect American copyright... you'll see what freedom feels like.
>>57109989
>Comcast does!
Programming Alert! TWC isn't part of comcast.
>>57109974
My VPN provider does not support Socks5. Only OpenVPN and some windows shit I know nothing about.
>>57109986
>binding your torrent program to your TAP/TUN device in the first place
teach me senpai
>>57109989
>Win10 VPN clients all suck for example.
So use L2TP/IPsec or SSTP you fucking moron.
>>57110013
Sorry it's in German but it should be obvious. You can bind qbittorrent to your VPN adapter.
>>57110012
>teach me senpai
