Just installed Tomato on an old Linksys WRT54G.
So easy, and now it even gave me WPA2 support. Neat, this router has much better signal coverage than my more modern Netgear, I'm gonna give it a try.
Anyway, I would still use a signal boost. I see a lot of aftermarket antennas for this, any specific to get? Need high wall penetration.
dubs decide what I name my SSID

Get another router and connect it in another room. OR get a Unifi kit.

Aw shit, dubs!

I picked up a EnGenius EAP300 for free99. I was gonna give it a try if high gain antennas dont do the trick.
I'm finding some nice 7dbi for $6 shipped. Will it make a difference?

Maybe. More powerful antennas may make a difference, but your router can't do beamforming. Not a big deal, but it also improves a signal strength, even on a weak equipment.
Got the EAP300 reset.
Not certain about this, but is there any issues if the access point is broadcasting the same SSID as my router?
If I connect to the SSID, how does my wireless device handle the transition from one device to another?
And more importantly, if I attempt to log into the device via the web interface, how can I tell to which device I'm connected do, and how can I choose to log into the AP, or router?
Kyouko ofcourse
So I think this Linksys router is limited to like 54mbps cause the best download speed I'm getting are just around 30mbps.
I have a 90mbps plan with Comcast, and my old router hits those speed fine.
I've reset, and restarted, and restarted my mode. Lame.
Got the EAP300 running, but where my router/modem is, its giving me a shit signal.
Sigh. This place is wired like shit. Coaxial comes out the worst fucking place, and I cannot easily move the modem to a better location without extending like 80ft of coaxial, and running it up, and over a door frame.
