The 2 I have in mind are:

I bought a 3GB 1060 because of tight budget for 230€ to replace an HD6870.
With an i7 950 it rusn everything in Ultra 60fps mini in 1080p.
>BF1 beta @ 90fps
>Doom with vulkan with no frames drop
And I only have 6GB of ram.
>>
For the same price the 1060 is an easy choice.
>>

To be fair I just got done returning my XFX GTR after it kept artifacting with no clock applied and full updated bios.

So maybe your 480 will be different?

But my personal vote is for the Nvidia.

$3.50 have been deposited into your goyworks account
>>
>>57083441
The 480 is a $200 card.
the 1060 is a $250 card.

Take a $250 1060 over a $250 480.

I haven't bought an nvidia card since the 9800GT. IE since before you were born.
>>
To be honest if you aren't waiting for hbm2 cards you are officially dumb

I can prove it to you if you want? But thank you for presuming I'm a shill.

This is the first AMD card I've had and I thought I'd give it a go in an unbiased manner, but it keeps overheating and throttling itself or being extremely noisy and loud.
>>
>>57083464
HBM is a dumb meme.
People that believe it's a revolution are beyond retarded.
>>
>>57083464
Being in the UK I worry if I wait until then they'll be astronomical in cost.

Pretty much the same.

Flip a coin or decide if you want 6gb or 8gb card.

Help me out here, do you use custom drivers and is Wattman potentially causing >>57083466
this twat to throttle and artifact?
>>
I should probably add, I had an HD7950 which died a few months ago.

The only games I play at the minuter are CSGo and hearthstone.

I will be waiting for HBM2 cards, but I'm just gonna get a medium range GPU in the mean time.
>>
1060 supports Shadowplay, or whatever Nvidia are calling it these days.

If it weren't for that, I'd get a 480 over a 1060, purely to spite Nvidia and their business practices, but I need the big green dick in my ass so I can work.
>>
>>57083515
AMD also has DVR.
>>
>>57083500
I use the Linux Kernel + MESA userspace drivers.

As for noise: Mine is always almost quiet NOW since I only use it to power my 3 monitor setup which mostly just shows normal desktop application.

I did use a bunch of these cards for crypto-currency mining back in the day and they were loud as a jet-engine. I used the flgrx driver back then since that was the only one which worked with the mining software at the time. The temperatures reported by the cards were around 60C.

I haven't mined crypto-currency since ASICs came so I don't know about newer cards like the 480 but historically the AMD cards have been insanely loud and hot under full load.
>>
>>57083472

Quadrupling the memory bus is not a meme.

Its a huge leap in a neglected aspect of gpus
>>
>>57083564
Yeah, I honestly wanted to give an AMD card a go but if I wait any longer to settle on a GPU prices will skyrocket.

It's so loud it takes the piss.

RX 480 ~ GTX 1060.
250$ ~ 300$

>muh jews

hello there achmed, how's the senseless terror attack coming along?
>>
>>57083660
Yeah. In Germany the 8GB RX 480 is more expensive than the 6BG 1060, so I went with the latter. If I had US prices, I'd probably have chosen the 480, also because of better drivers and upsides in the future.
>>
>>57083185
If you're going to get the 480, get the XFX GTR or ideally the MSI Gaming X. They're far better than the Nitro. Try Flubit as well. I got an offer of ~£240 for the Gaming X recently. Ended up buying a Gigabyte ITX OC 1060 for £216 through them instead though.
>>
>>57083988
With all these people speaking well of the XFX GTR I really think I got a dud.
>>
>>57084047
Well yeah, if you're the guy who got one that artifacted out of the box, of course you got a dud. I had an EVGA SC 1060 that just died out of nowhere a week in, yet everybody says that's the best 1060. Just bad luck.
>>
>>57083185
480 all the way.

I am, sucks man. Fuck it, I'll get an RX 470 8gb. It'll be 20% cheaper 10% less powerful.

it's just I keep going over in my head what I've done wrong, you know?

Ah well, soonest it can be exchanged is Monday.

Best £70 I ever spent was this bugger.
>>
>>57083564
The new MSI RX 480 Gaming X is amazing. My 290 died so I got one of those to replace it and it's whisper quiet at full load in comparison and uses less power.
