"There is no cloud, just other people's computers," you said, as though it was anything more than pedantry. Well, here's what happens when you rely on "your computer". Your mass-produced, commodity tech of unknown provenance. This is what happens when you trust your own skills, and get complacent, and fail to make the backups you should.

Meanwhile, I am at zero risk of losing anything. My cloud storage syncs to a small nettop that does a rolling backup of the cloud storage's contents. Literally unlosable.
