Is Partition Alignment actually relevant for SSD or just a meme to shill some XXXX SDD DISK ALIGNMENT PRO bullshit?
Just got SSD and reading some tips on optimization and this looks sketchy:
disk-partition[.]com/kb/tips-ssd-optimization-windows7-1.html
It's very relevant.
My IOPS dropped to 30k when the partition wasn't aligned properly.
After alignment it jumped to 85k, where it's supposed to be according to the specs.
Here's what the benchmark looked like.

How do you check if it is aligment
>>57068087
This is one way to figure it out.
Get AS SSD and if the text is red and says "bad" it's fucked.
>>57068087
Use AS SSD as shown.
If it shows 1024K that's fine as well, it just has to be an offset that is divisible by 4096 bytes exactly. It will say OK if you're good or BAD if you're not good, pretty simple to understand.
It's pretty much impossible to have bad alignment nowadays as all modern OS partitioning tools know how to handle this without issues.

tanks

My partitions got fucked when I cloned my SSD with Samsung's own cloning tool.

Seq write/read are supposed to be 500/550 for me.
Guess it's still fine.

ever os since 2008(?) is _creating_ aligned partitions, so this is no problem.
it's a problem when you reuse an existing partition or you use programs to create partitions which don't care about it.
and yes, it is relevant.
if you write a sector to an unaligned partition, you most like will have to write _two_ blocks on the SSD instead of just one with an aligned partition.
that's a decrease of speed and nand-lifetime.
>>57068007
What SSD?
Mine is utter shite but cheep tho
>>57068371
500GB 850 Evo, been pretty happy with it so far.
It's about as good as the SATA SSDs come.
Dont forget to align your SSD's almonds.

>Get a cheap secondary ssd to use for editing, have an 840 pro as boot drive
>decide on 500gb 850 evo since its such a great deal
>Do some benchmarks
>850 evo is faster than my 840 pro
The evos seem pretty bangin in terms of price to performance.
I think the main thing with the pro series is longevity though so I guess mine isnt completely cucked
Guess I fucked up aligning the other partitions.
>>57068568
No, you didn't.
Those are all divisible by 1024
>>57068589
Guess gparted is still useful if it can properly align 6 partitions for a SSD
>>57068554
iirc 840pro is MLC, 850evo is TLC.
MLC > TLC in every aspect.
>>57068939
Go back to gizmodo you rat.
>>57068247
Samsung has a track record of shit software/firmware/drivers when it comes to their SSDs
>>57068939
I would think the same.
And it's probably that way on paper/theory.
But the personal benchmarks I ran don't lie, they kind of surprised me as well.
Then again there are numerous factors that could account for the performance levels but fuck you faggot
:'(

>using old sata 2.0 port

yeah i'm looking into getting a new motherboard soon
