Do you run your own DNS?
If not, why are you still trusting 3rd parties with your queries when you can just have the root at home?
lol nerd
literally no reason to do this

DNS queries and responses are entirely unencrypted. Unless you're using dnscrypt, Verizon or whatever ISP you have is collecting every single site you visit by passively reading your DNS queries. Guaranteed. Local DNS does NOT stop this
>>57058330
indeed, how much info can they possibly get with 8ms query time
>>57058284
I run a local caching dns server on my cellphone, but the external requests are through tor, to tor dns servers. Very fast, very private.
>>57058284
>you still have to query upstream
>unencrypted responses
nice bait, though!
>>57058368
>>57058407
I am using DNSCrypt.
>>57058284
Yes. But mostly for just caching and local look ups.
>>57058368
Even with dnscrypt they can still do that simply by logging which IPs you connect to.
I've been meaning to set up my own, but for some reason I never do.
>>57058446
Yeah but without a proxy there's not a ton you can do about that honestly.
>>57058494
All I'm saying is that dnscrypt does nothing to improve your privacy. It's good for security, though.
>>57058494
Proxies aren't encrypted, VPNs are.
>>57058569
>Proxies aren't encrypted
>>57058581
Unless you use https, the requests you send to your proxy server will just be a simple "GET http://boards.4chan.org". Hardly secure.
>>57058569
Yeah my bad, though you can have encrypted proxies with SOCKS, and some HTTP proxy servers support the Connection: Upgrade header to use tls
>>57058630
Pretty sure every person in this thread that thinks running your own dns server for privacy is beyond idiotic knows that already. You missed the point of my image.
What size of a database would you have when running local DNS server? 3 terabytes and growing every second, yes?
Well, that's some military grade shit.
What is the point?
>Maryland, maybe 8 years ago
>sitting on my computer doing things
>my dad is too
>go to google.com
>DNS routes me to some virus porn spam ad spam website
>what the fuck
>happens to dad too
>thinks I did something
>I have no idea what going on
>went on for like two days
Then we got an explanation from our Telecom service.
Turned out someone in the neighbourhood had hacked into the whole neighbourhoods general DNS routing through the Telecom provider system's shit and hijacked all or connections, routing them through his own personal DNS server.
He was making money on every single ad.
Pretty fucking cool shit if you ask me.

why? why is it every time i see you you are acting like a complete asshole?
