What areas of AI are about smart robots/singularity AI type stuff?
I've been reading about AI lately and it's huge. I thought it was pretty much all focused on the one goal but without context it's hard to understand the usefulness/what things are applied to.

None.
all AI is Linked lists.

What about the connectome? (The one where someone decided to take a worm's neurons and put it into a Lego robot.)
Couldn't that be used in artificial intelligence?

You OK?
Farts.

current AI is just algorithms that make decisions off of previous data instead of a static program. statistics. it's nothing as complex as what we know of as thought. to create an AI like a human, you'd have to recreate the structure of the human brain with its 23 billion neurons in the male brain and at that point have 7,000 connections to other neurons. each of those neurons is like a simple miniature processor. i highly doubt strong ai will come into existence in our lifetime, and at all is questionable

really makes me think
So all that stuff about decision making is really the heart of AI? What's machine learning and deep learning then?

>singularity
it's a hypothesis, nothing more

I'm reading this book right now... pretty good introduction to artificial intelligence learning throw neural networks...
AI doesnt exist anymore, it died in the AI winter of the 90s, programmers use machine learning. ML uses statistics programming to find patterns and train computers to follow those patterns. Its easy to learn ML, there are tons of books and online courses. ML is a high paying job in silicon valley for doing things like data mining. When ever you see ads that are related to sites you visit, that is a result of ML. The whole AI/Singularity thing is science fiction and not based on any real technology.

It's all about trying to make an profile of you based on your browsing habits and then they look for traits amoung people with those browsing habits and use it as a way of scoring you as a financial risk etc. etc. It's the reason why big money is on big data. It's about profiling.
>Show A.I. images of tea kettles
>It will learn to distinguish the shape/features of tea kettles from other objects
>So, we teach it to recognize patterns and behaviors, like what is your favorite thing to search on pornhub.
>Then, the entities controlling the A.I., use this information to target ads to you.
>Since this is the only viable solution for mapping personality and behavioral traits for humans as a species.
>Hopefully, these entities decide to do more useful things with A.I. like make personal assistant robotics.
>It's likely most research is going towards mapping the human psyche and war machines, though.

He's refering to the guys who used Openworm simluation to control a robot. But that's just a very complicated and no where near perfect lifeform simulation to allow a robot to move around objects. It's more contrived then just using deep learning or even a ping sensor. The problem is that people who don't understand AI think that it is magic. But really it's all just math/statistics and very crude in execution. Genetic Algos, Mahcine Learning, Neural Networks, etc.
I miss those AI threads we used to have. Here are some videos if you are confused about what AI is.
