Hewlett Packard just released a new firmware version for a select line of inkjets that re-enables the printer to use 3rd party inks.
If you were one of those people that owns an HP Inkjet, and in September you found your printer all of sudden reported errors that counterfeit inks were installed, and prevented your printer from printing, this new firmware revision will correct that issue and allow you to use 3rd party inks again.
I have an HP 8620 that was affected. After installing this revised firmware update (FDP1CN1640BR), ALL my 3rd party inks are operational again, and I'm able to print,
DON'T FORGET TO TURN OFF AUTOMATIC FIRMWARE UPDATES SO HP WON'T FUCK YOU AGAIN.
If your printer was affected, check the HP driver download page for your model to see if the new firmware is available.
This link lists what model printers will be getting the new firmware.

Is this the software on the computer or the actual firmware in the printer itself?
Who the fuck even updates printer firmware? If it works just leave it alone.
Im an autist and not even I have updated printer firmware, I cant imagine a normie actually doing it.
Imagining a normie updating a printer firmware is like hearing my grandma say "I updated my bios"

As i remember it's checks for updates automagically (windows only).

My hp printer wouldnt work with the software on the cd, I just set it up through windows "add a printer" and it works automagically. I dont think its updated itself this way.
I also use it with its own hotspot now, which involves my laptop disconnecting from the internet, kinda shity but alteast I know it cant update itself like that.
