Software engineering teaches you the top languages corporations use, writing design specs, UML diagrams, etc. Its curriculum will change to match what's popular in industry. This is good if you want to code up software for companies.

Computer science is more theoretical and mathy. Yes, but that means that you have good worth ethic. Accredited universities for Gender Studies that have no Math, Science, or English classes and only have major-specific courses do not exist.

A degree from an accredited university means "I can do work when asked, even if I have to work hard, and I'm willing to put in time and effort to achieve something".

A degree in Gender Studies from a general Uni might be worthless in any given field, but that doesn't mean that the degree itself is worthless, because it comes with other implications.

Gender studies is obviously an extreme example of a useless degree but even with that one the point stands. As long as you aren't trying to get a STEM job your degree likely won't matter as long as you have the other job skills.
