So I just did a fresh Windows 8.1 installation.
Everything has gone fine, except the windows update thing is still "checking for updates".
Been like that for an hour already. Should I just leave it on overnight or is there some known fix for this shit?
People on google say "leave it on", but somehow I have trouble believing that.
Manually install a convenience rollup. It's already botnet anyway.
Windows Update is known to shit the bed, use WSUS offline to install updates instead
Also Microsoft released a patch to the updater a little while ago, look it up

Something's fucky fucky with the updates. But let it run. Took me about 2 hours to find all the updates on a fresh install.

I looked up WSUS offline, it seems kind of sketchy, but I'll give it a whirl if the updates arent being found after a few hours. Thanks.

WSUS seems to be legit. And I'm sure their botnet < wangblows botnet.

Have you already installed all the 56556^10 C++ and .NET runtimes?

I use wsus offline routinely in my line of work, and I can verify that it works, and it works better than the internal windows update client.
On a box not even connected to a network, I can go from a fresh windows install to fully updates in about half an hour.

On a box connected to a network I can lay down a fully updated image of any current windows OS in about half an hour.
