What a fucking POS greedy ass company. It doesn't get much scummier than this.

This is why you get a Brother printer.
Bros before hoes
>>
>>57026563
Brother sucks as well, they all do, and they all collude to keep their pricing up.

HP has the absolute best printer interface, and an incredible amount of networking tools.
>>
>>57026598
Brother printers are the only ones that aren't fucking you over on purpose.
>>
>>57026563
>>57026614

I have never seen a "Brother" printer and I'm still not sure if you're memeing or if that is actually a brand.
>>
>>57026526
In 2008 Brother printers were actually sued against for the same thing. Didn't work because Brother printers actually allowed you to disable that option.
>>
>>57026526
Wilkosmaloviric printers are much better. You can compile your own printer firmware.
>>
>>57028286
I prefer Metlaqublayiric printers myself, you can build them from scratch.
>>
>>57028162
chink brand, got one in the office, at least the low segment and compared to HP one (like the 1102w tier) is shit, took 2 toners to kill that fucker without any weird manipulation (just put the recomended paper and that's it) while we still use a 5L from 1998 without any issues after like 10 toners each refilled god know how many times....

I think of them as the condoms of printers, works fine out of the box but after one use it goes into the trash or explode.

printers are one of the first things that come up if you look into planned obsolescence, there is a chip that makes printers just stop working if it detects some small amount of leaked ink, when infact the printer still functions.

first time i've heard anyone going apeshit over it though, guessing because 3rd party ink is cheap and your business needs money money money aswell, its almost as though you can't figure out fucking everyother over for profit means you get fucked too.

>>
Inkjet printers are scum to begin with but I'm not surprised HP pulled this move.
Last I heard they weren't re-releasing any firmware, they just apologized about the "way they informed customers about the changes"

A friend who works at best buy said people have been returning hp printers like crazy, even ones that aren't affected by this shit.

I unfortunately work at a company that applied this type of business model to coffee, and it was a shot in the foot. I think it will literally bring the whole company down
>>
>>57026526
>using 3rd party ink cartridges
Are you fucking stupid?
>>
>>57032257

No I'm not, HP paid shill.
>>
I got chinked by this HP printer shit

I'm the kind of guy that buys a variety of off-brand cheap cartridges to see which ones work best, and then immediately go buy 20+ more of the best cartridges from the same lot, because I've verified that they work and they're way cheaper than name brand ink.

When my old computer shit the bed I installed the print driver from the website on my new computer, it updated the printer firmware, and lo and behold my printer with ~25 high capacity ink cartridges is now bricked until I shell out dosh for HP ink.

FUCK HP
I go through a lot of ink too, I'm just glad I only had like 25 cartridges. I usually have hundreds of dollars worth of ink cartridges saved up but thank god I was running low when this all happened.

If It was name brand ink we'd be talking like a thousand dollars worth of ink carts that I how have that are completely useless because the HP printers they were designed to fit in will no longer accept them
>>
Brother mono lasers are awesome. Cheap as fuck to run, no bells and whistles, but reliable like the old HP Laserjets used to be, before they went all cheap and shifty.

Fucking shifty inkjets that dry up and render themselves useless, and fuck expensive to run color laser printers, too much hassle.

If you cannot live without basic printing then a cheap mono laser is the only way to roll.
>>
>>57032348
Calm down Anon. HP is releasing new firmware to allow the use of 3rd party cartridges for select model printers.

The new firmware should be released for download sometime mid-October.

Check this link to see if your printer will be included with the new firmware.

nice my model printer is on that list
thanks anon I'm feeling slightly less pissed about it

although I did have to buy a different printer for my business, I haven't begun to stockpile ink for it yet though, maybe I wont have to

Read up on the trial where Lexmark found out that reverse-engineering their toner cartridge chips was legal.
Great stuff. (Sorry, no link).
>>
>>57028162
It's a real brand.
http://www.brother-usa.com/

If you picture equipment from the late 90's, stuff that was built like a tank and kept running, but you find it fugly and clunky, then yeah, that's Brother. We have fax machines that won't fucking die - they're over a decade old and they keep going.
>>
>>57032474
>but reliable like the old HP Laserjets used to be
Ah yes, the Laserjet 4. The fucking tank of laser printers. Our last one decomissioned about 8 years ago after hitting almost a million copies.

Think about that. A laser printer that was 15 years old and still printing, and we got rid of it because it was slow, not because it didn't work.

I miss the fucking thing. It's a fucking boat anchor, you can easily break a foot by placing it on the floor and running by it. It's slow, noisy, and ran like a champ.

Paper still exists for a reason. It's durable, lasts decades, cheap, can be easily stored and collated, and even the most basic civilizations can figure out how to make it.

Digital is nice, but Jesus H. Fucking Christ you people are dense when you believe that all digital will solve all your problems. Hint: you just shift problems from one (fast cheap lookup) to another (based on a technology with incredible dependencies and there's the data migration problem on top of it)

Inkjet is a shit. I bought a used Samsung laser printer off Craigslist because the low toner light was on for 25$. I printed over 100pages before quality actually degraded, the cartridge had well over 1000prints at this point. I bought a refill kit for 6$ which can fully refill it twice, 200pages later and I'm still going strong on my first refill.

Your "argument" fucking blows. Explain why Eastern European countries are such shit holes after being socialist for 50 years, and how many now have a better quality of life after getting rid of that shitty system.

My point still stands. The only things that controlled markets are good at is causing shortages and black markets where everything is overpriced.

Name one socialist country that is successful.

STFU. They make plenty off of inkjets and refills, to the tune of billions per year. BooFuckingHoo...muh printer sold at a loss.

Ya right, these greedy corporate fucks want you spending $1K per year on their bullshit.

The greedy bastards created a thriving 3rd party ink market by pricing their crap far too high.

Who the fuck wants to spend $100 on a set of inks that will dry out, and the other half used on priming, cleaning and constantly aligning the print head.

If they priced their inks fairly, no one would buy from a 3rd party vendor, and they would regain that lost market, then they won't have to spend millions on bullshit counterfeit alarms they install in their "muh free printers".

Is everyone in this thread stupid? Has no one ever heard about refilling cartridges or using CISS systems? I've owned pretty much all printer brands and for the last couple years I've settled with a C3100 with a chink ciss kit that works fine and retrieved from storage a 895C, slower sure, but absolutely reliable. And with an Hp45 cart refilled to the brim I can get well over 1000 pages.
