if the cpu's on laptops are soldered on, can a remove them and solder a different cpu?

>touching the iron
>mainboard is on a wooden chair
this is why women shouldn't go into tech. their minds are just not capable
>>
>>57018260
it's fine to place a circuit board on wood. nothing will happen to it
>>
>>57017969
>Holding soldering iron incorrectly
STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP FUCKING STOP!!!
>>
>>57017969
You? No.

Someone competent? Sure.
>>
>>57017969
They're BGA. You can remove them with hot air rework. Google it.
>>
>>57018272
not to the board but definitely to the wood if you're soldering with >300°C

anyway technically yes OP, if you have a hot air reflow station. It would be a horrible chore though, and only worth it on a very expensive computer
>>
>>57018306
I commonly used blocks of wood as a soldering jig, particularly with bullet connectors.
>>
Yes, but it's a pain in the ass and you need a special rig with a hot air heater to do it (do a youtube search for "reballing"). Not only that, but your CPU choice is pretty limited and often there are versions of your laptop's motherboard that already have the fastest possible cpu from the series so it's easier to just get that.
>>
What's up with these type of pictures? What are they for?
>>
>>57018260
>>57018306
Maybe it's an old chair she doesn't care about?
>>
>>57018377
They are stock photos.
>>
>>57018306
Then try not to jam your soldering iron into the wood.
>>
>>57018304
the problem is not removing or soldering the new chip, it's placing the solder balls on the new CPU.
>>
>>57020030
And how are you going to melt the solder balls, you failed abortion?
>>
>>57018260
To be fair, she's a model for a stock photo.

The photo was likely set up by a man.
>>
>>57018260
not burning your name into the wood once you're done.

She's just the model, blame the photog etc.

At least she's holding it a the rubber grip, most models hold them at the tip like a pen. It's already 200% above my expectations.
>>
>>57017969
If your soldering skills are as good as your typing skills, you cannot.

what's next, buying shit with soldered ram? lmao
>>
>>57017969
>>
>>57017969
yes
it probably won't work though, laptop mobos usually support narrow range of cpus
>>
>>57023275
what are you talking about? this is a stock photos thread
>>

Funny how every photo of this is not an actual woman working, is there even 1??

well naturally a woman hands will drift to the warmest part of the object, its instinct
>>
>>57017969
physically, yes. The BIOS needs microcode to boot each specific processor though. If your BIOS doesn't support the exact specific processor, it won't boot.

>Funny how every photo of this is not an actual woman working, is there even 1??
All the ones who assembled the cards you plugged in while you were "building" your gamerz "rig". A lot of their work has become automated these days but they still assemble things like phones and tablets.
>>
>>57018272
a capacitor touching the tip of the soldering iron is bad. the entire board should be upside down unless your desoldering shit thats on side b but on many mobos there isnt much on side b

despite it being realized that circuits could be made in a more compact way by having paths on both sides because the pathways cant touch each other side b is neglected by modern mobo manufacturers
>>
>>57018306
>soldering at over 300c

Are you nuts? Around 150c is all you need.
>>
>>57025426

get a load of this guy
>>
>>57025426
Uh, solder has a melting point over 180C. Lead-free variants over 200C.

150C = ~300F.

Don't BGA chips come with the balls already attached?
>>
>>57025879
Depends if you can actually buy the chips from manufacturer.

Fuck yes there are, all our phones and mobos and fucking everything with a circuit was assembled by thousands of women in factories in Shenzhen, China.

Of course, they don't use production line photos of high-tech sweat-shops in advertising material.

Actually, if you take a walk around the tech markets in Shenzhen, you'll pass stalls where people (randomly men or women) are assembling refurbished phones out of parts or whatever, I've seen alleys full of shops with a few workers just building phones or even just building a single phone part and then selling whatever they built to people who rock up and need 5,000 android mobos in a certain form-factor or something.

One woman I saw was just taking some metallic (copper?) strip in a rectangle shape and clipping it on to some plastic frame. I watched for a few minutes and she made about 20 of them while I was standing there, had probably made hundreds already that day. It was phone sized so I think it maybe was the phone antenna around the edge of the case or something.
