There is no good alternative to enterprisey software. It's impossible to make such software good, because the people who are making the decision to buy it (the CTO or similar), the people who have to maintain it (IT staff) and the people who have to use it, are all different groups. Also none of them are spending their own money on it, they're spending shareholders' money on it.
Management wants to outsource the writing of software, basically. They want the company to not have to write it themselves, and for the company they're buying it from to be legally responsible if anything goes wrong. They make the decisions, so this is what SAP and other enterprise software is targeted at. IT wants it to be maintainable, easy to run, performant, and not cause them headaches with bugs and licensing. The software is of course none of these things, since they aren't making the buying decision. Users want the software to make their tasks easier, to not be a pain to figure out, and to work reliably. Again, it doesn't do these things, because the users, like IT, have to just do what they're told, and don't have a veto over whether to buy the software or renew its license.
