Boot with gentoo live DVD and test your wi fi. If it works run lspci -k with root privileges. In the output find your card, check what module it uses and compile that module in your main system. Then check on the main again with lspci -k if the module gets loaded. If it is loaded and you still have no working wi fi then your networkmanager or sth on application level is fucked up. Good luck.
