Going to have to do software development as a contractor to fill some time before my next career prospect.
Are contractors treated like sh*t? Anyone ever done it?

I'm an independent contractor now and I enjoy it. I didn't mean to get here but wouldn't go back now that I have enough clients to keep me going. The worst part is marketing yourself which is going to be foreign territory for the average autist. But after that hurdle is jumped you pretty much just do simple to moderately complex jobs from the comfort of your own home. Just make sure you have professional support for your hardware and backups since there's no excuse for losing thousands because your shit book died at the wrong moment and the fag store is closed or you need to buy a part on ebay and have to wait a week for it to ship.

Isn't the cable on that mouse on the "wrong" end?

Is all contracting work from home?

No but that's how I operate. I also travel to clients with some regularity, but most coordinating is done over the phone or voip.
Software devs are treated badly full stop
