What's the advantages of cisc over risc?
Isn't risc better because it takes less cycles to complete an instruction?
Is x86 the only popular cisc architecture? Is it still cisc? I remember reading something about x86 executing risc instructions instead now, so is modern x86 risc or cisc?

RISC is better, hands down. The reason we still have x86 is due to compatibility. Intel processors are actually RISC processors with CISC decoders built in.

risc hardware such as ARM got a lot of cisc-like additions, such as hardfloat or NEON because you just cannot get multimedia shit done without any hardware support on phone processor, especially when theye were 800MHz or less and single core.
