As a 733T distro and wm user, I have to respect the noob for going for it though right?

Noob, different distros give you a range of pre-configured systems. You will be blind until you have some of the complicated stuff setup for you at first. Props for jumping into Arch though. And if you really want to try arch, get Archanywhere or Manjaro and it will do the heavy lifting for you. Learning how to use arch will eventually help you set it up yourself, HOWEVER don't expect to be able to jive with other Linux users who use Debian and RedHat based distros and their lingo. Save yourself the time and learn faster on Ubuntu or fedora

Why is this rsync command creating and additional directory on the target computer? I want to transfer a file from the source to the same location on the target computer. I made sure not to add a trailing slash to the source (so it doesn't transfer only the files, but also the directory). Weirdly removing the trailing slash achieves exactly what I want, but that's against the normal behaviour. Why?

My function that I use:
rsync --info=PROGRESS2 -rp "$1" [email protected]:"$(realpath "$1")"

Source layout:
>/home/user/Downloads/directory
After transferring on the destination computer:
>/home/user/Downloads/directory/directory

What order should unbound+dnssec+dnscrypt, polipo be to manage everything properly?
unbound is already setup for dnssec+dnscrypt,as well as polipo. But im not sure if they are properly organized to benefit from the proper setup, such as running polipo via browser proxy config which then connect to the unbound serverr which is serving as the outbound point

Maybe try a more begginer-friendly distro, any *buntu (except the Unity version), or Debian, get to know the terminal, and try not to use the GUI unless really have no fucking clue and need to do something ASAP.
>>
>>56999412

ALSA with Pulseaudio, not the realtime kernel and using an older Sound Blaster card with the snd_emu10k1 module.
Speaking of snd_hda_intel, I'll try the built in soundcard on the motherboard to rule out hardware issues. Thanks for reminding me.
>>
>>56999480

Do you literally mean to have the progress bar in a different shade of white?
>>
>>56999549
Yes. I want it DIMMED.
Why does this surprises you?
>>
>>56999564

Because it's and odd and specific request.
The only way to change it is to edit wget's source and to add a color escape code to the progress bar output.
>>
>>56999599
>it's and odd and specific request
I don't think it's odd. It would be prettier on my script. It already shows the information of how many files were downloaded, so it does not need to highlight the progress bar. By the way, WGET is configured to print only the progress bar, so I thought that maybe it could be easier.

OK then. I will leave it as it is now, and create a more work-intensive solution later.
>>
>>56999640

>print only the progressbar

Well then in that case, you can wrap that around the color escape code.
>>
>>56999674
>you can wrap that around the color escape code
Wouldn't "TPUT DIM" be doing just that?
>>
>>56999707

I don't know, I'm not familiar with tput. Post your script here.

Is there any music player that comes with a "move to library" feature that allows me to move music to a specific folder and sort things like
/music/[artist]/[year - album name]/00.Song_name.mp3 or anything similar?

Clementine does it, but it's dreadful. I also could write a script, but it's really useful to be able to do it from the player itself.

I want to install Linux on a separate hard drive. Can I just install it on a second drive and choose the boot device to select which OS I will use for that session? Or do I have to have a properly configured bootloader to do this? I've used linux before but I'm not very knowledgeable about these stuff.

Hey! I'm the Arch newbie asking about SWAP from last thread. It was late so I went to bed, but I realized that night that I had not set my BIOS to UEFI, since Winblows creates a EFI partition that GRUB can hook into, do I need to reinstall Windows?

I've just reinstalled windows, so theres nothing on it, so it's no problem if I need to again.
>>
I would like to extend my partition to the left (backwards). What is my risk of potential data loss or other problems? This is just a data drive and I will not be booting from it.
>>
>>57006718
Even if you've taken all the precautions and even if you're 99.99% sure that it won't damage your data, you should still make a backup first.

To answer your question, if you are using a logical volume manager, it'll probably be alright without much headache. If not it depends.

Yes, I don't mind selecting which device I want to use for that session. However:

I do mind having grub working together with Windows, this is exactly the thing I'm trying to avoid. Can I avoid using grub to select between Windows and Linux if I have two separate hard drives from which I select the one I will be using for a given session on bios menu?

Yes, I can totally remember the hundreds of photos I have by name alone.

>You can, there are many ways to draw pictures in the terminal's framebuffer.
Yes and they're all hacks. Where do you draw the line? There's nothing worse than you pretentious idiots who think they're the bees knees for using a terminal emulator and a shell. I use it myself most of the time, but I'm not an obnoxious little idiot who has to impose his "superiority" on others and who uses the wrong tools just so he can feel cool.

Faenza 4lyf.
I like GNOME (Adwaita's) directory icons, but the rest just looks straight 1995. Faenza might look too glossy at times, but at least it's better than the flat, abstract madness other icons offer or the blinding colors of Numix.

Gameboy Advance has an ARM processor. Do you think I could get an ARM version of GNU/Linux working on it?

Someone should really do a software that do all that shit.

Install powertop, it's like top/htop, displays what processes sucks the most energy and offers some switches to turn on/off most cummon energy suckers.

the one I'm using

you will probably start on deadbeef and end up on cmus or ncmpcpp in the end

everything else is useless bloat

autists usually can't understand why others may have different preferences.

you really can't complain about bloat in music players if you use something other than moc or cmus.
>>
>>57013158
moc is actually nice for people who don't want to import libraries first to play a directory
>>
>>57012963

At this point, honestly I'd just have just 3 different distros:

Arch - 1337 level

Fedora - better tier

Something Debian based with a good interface (NOT UNITY) - grandma tier

Fracturing is not helping desktop linux adoption rates.

Google play music dekstop application.

Is there a way to restore the exact state the system was in after a reboot? So all my current programs would open exactly where they were, like when you save the machine state in a Virtual Box. Putting it to sleep isn't what I want I need to be able to reboot the machine entirely

Jesus christ niggers.

mpv --shuffle ~/mu/jazz/*

Listen to music and stop being autistic about useless GUI crap.

there's a tunable process in powertop that always makes my system hang on shutdown if it's set to good

can't figure out what it is

arch is edgy kid babby tier
fedora is no reason exist tier
unless linus writes a window system there is no linux desktop

There's so much wrong with your post, it's not worth pointing out.

God you fucking autists, a Piezzo-buzzer is all you need to enjoy your shitty music anyways, connect that up to your car battery and enjoy your bleeding ear shit :*

It astounds me how stupid you idiots can get just to feel cool and "superior". I don't know who's worse, you giving awful recommendations or the idiots that will blindly follow you, step in your footsteps and then keep the circle going.

Yes, use a session manager. Most pre-assembled desktop environments come with one. If you don't use a pre-assembled one, just install one of them manually.
>>
>>57013274

Having an interface that resembles wangyblows is kinda essential for a modern OS to exist, on a desktop machine, outside your basement.

Anyways there's just too much wrong with your post, so I won't bother with such subhuman filth like you.
>>
>>57013330

None of the things you mentioned are relevant to the discussion. The topic was "defining features of a distribution". A desktop environment certainly isn't that. You can install desktop environments on any distribution.

I'm pretty sure that they've been banned form /g/, along with screenfetch threads because of autistic mods.
