/g/, lets solve this once for all.
What is the perfect amount of RAM for normal computer use in 2016? 4GB? 8GB? 16GiB?

Normal people don't need more than 4gb and by normal I mean your parents, not anyone on /g/
I have 16gb, but Im normally within the 3-5gb range, its just occasionally I'll end up using up to 12 so its nice to have.
I'd recommend 16gb just because ram is fairly cheap these days, but I could see 8gb being totally fine for most people
32 GB
1GiB is more than enough for well made programs, that said, you will need multiple times more if you use unnecessary normalfag tier shit
256MB
I used to be fine with 4 GB but ever since I started working with a much larger project than before I needed to upgrade to 8 GB which is now enough, I usually peak at 6-7 GB but the mileage varies depending on what you use your computer for.

nice anecdote
>>56981496
For a Microsoft Winders computer, 4gb is bare minimum, and 16gb is max. 8gb is perfect for all but extreme applications

16GB is the new 8GB, 32GB is the new 16GB, so the perfect amount would be 32GB.

>implying "normal computer use" can be defined
>implying "the more the better" is not the right answer when RAM is cheap as fuck
>>56981496
Linux: 2GB
macOS: 3GB
Windows 7: 4GB
Windows 8, 10: 8GB

maybe it's cheap as fuck, but from some time most laptops for normies comes with RAM soldered to the motherboard. So the cost doesn't play any role in this case.

Yeah, "normal computer use" being Netflix, Facebook, YouTube, and maybe some occasional torrenting, just the 4gb.
8gb
