Is the Surface line dead along with the Atom? I want a full windows tablet but not if it has a fan in it.
>>
What makes you think that? Surface tablets are still being made, the Surface Book came out recently, and they've stated they're doing a hardware refresh in early-to-mid 2017.
>>
>>56973652
Surface line meaning non pro Surface Surfaces.
>>
>>56973635
Why would you need "full windows" on a tablet? Android can do literally everything windows can.
>>
>>56973635
Fanless ultraportables are still being made, intel just killed the atom line because they gave up on cellphones and dont want the atom line to undercut their 4.5w TDP core i/m (Y unit) line.

So instead of buying a cheap notebook with a 30 $ atom chip, you can buy an expensive one with $300 Y series chip.

It can't do VNs and 2hu.

>>

>>

>there's no reason to want to use a desktop operating system that you can run actual software on when you have apps!!

3 pajeet pennies have been deposited into your account
>>
>>56973933
Then what programs do you use? Are you playing Touhou with a touch screen?
>>
>>56973954
What is "actual software" and how is it different than "apps"?

>Why would you need "full windows" on a tablet? Android can do literally everything windows can.
>>
>>56973963
So tell me what Windows programs do you use that are better on a tablet than a laptop?
>>
>>56973956
I do litreally all the same things I do with a laptop or a desktop, except with a tablet. It's more portable, and comfy for laying in bed and watching videos.

Why get another device when I only need one? Also, back when i did use a Surface Pro 3 I had it hooked up to a dock that had a powered USB hub so I basically used the tablet as a desktop.

Shit was awesome. Tablet when you need a tablet, overpriced desktop without a dedicated gpu when you need a larger screen with a full keyboard, mouse, external HDD, Webcam, etc etc
>>
>>56973990
So you're too poor to afford multiple devices suited to their specific purposes and have to resort to using some shitty half assed combination?
>>
>>56973635
>jewtel
they literally destroy the market of ultrabooks by shitty 2010 processors.
All i want is durable 12 inch laptop that have i5 and is not expensive.
(yes i know about thinkpads)
>>
>>56974011
>Want to use one device for everything because of the convenience

>P-P-P-Poorfag!

Also, for the cost of a Surface Pro with an i7 I could have just got a decent desktop and a used laptop if I wanted that. But I didn't *want* multiple devices.

if there was a Windows 10 phone that was x86-64 and had 6GB of RAM, you better believe it would be my only device.
>>
Are all Atoms dead? I thought Intel just axed the smartphone and tablet SoCs.
>>
>>56973635
Why are they so expensive?
>>
>>56973923
>I don't need a decent music or video player on my tablet, I swear!
>>
>>56973959
Sorry dude, but the onus is on you to convince others that the Android phone OS is at all comparable to an actual desktop OS.
>>
>>56974127
>muh madvr is not placebo, I swear!
>I can totally tell the difference!
>>
>>56974137
Why would you want to use a desktop OS on a tablet? That seems retarded.
>>
>>56974127
You also don't need to program, or multitasking (two "apps" side-by-side is all you need, everything else can be suspended!), web-browsers, mailclients, etc. with actual keyboard shortcuts instead of "swiping", etc. etc.
>>
>>56973700
Tablets are the only thing I find Windows useful for, it's great having a desktop OS in your pocket. Sure Android suffices but why settle when you can have a Windows/Android dual boot?
>>
>>56974149
>keyboard shortcuts
>touchscreen tablet
You sure are b8ing hard m8.
>>
>>56974142
If the option is available, why wouldn't I? There's no reason to not choose the option that's A) objectively more powerful, B) allows you to use the incredible amount of desktop software that doesn't exist in an "appstore", and C) has the same UI and programs you could use on a desktop. You can also run desktop *nix distros on Surface Pros.
>>
>>56974175
Because desktop software was designed to be used with a keyboard and mouse, neither of which are available on a tablet?
>>
>>56974157
Scroll the top of the thread, look at the image. They come with keyboards.
>>
>>56974194
No they don't. It's a $150 extra.
>>
>>56974194
So you are turning a tablet into a shittier version of a laptop, instead of just using a laptop?
>>
>>56974151
Why have Windows/Android dualboot when you can just not dualboot and use Android instead?
>>
>>56974204
A shittier version of a laptop is still better than being limited to Android's appstore and OS.
>>
>>56974206
Because Windows is better.
>>
>>56974220
No it's not. A shittier version of a laptop has no advantages over a laptop. Whereas a tablet running Android is better for the simple tasks it was intended for.
>>
>>56974240
Such as? It has worse web browsers, media players and reader apps. Also say goodbye to support 1 year after you own it.

Please name a dozen ways Android is better than a desktop OS.

Then write them in a letter and mail them to Google, Microsoft, and Apple, because they've obviously missed how mobile OS's are somehow objectively better than desktop OS's.
>>
>>56974192
Windows 10 has a touchscreen mode
>>
>>56974282
Better integration with Google services. Fuck using whatever garbage Micro$hill has to offer.
>>
>>56974282
Sure, that's totally why Apple and Google are investing much more heavily into macOS and ChromeOS vs iOS and Android, and why Microsoft is totally not trying to turn Windows 10 into a tablet OS.
>>
>>56974307
>1=12
>using Google services
>>
>>56973700
>android tablets
android is fucking shit on tablets though, barely any apps make any use of the extra screen space of a tablet; they're all literally exactly the same as the phone app
>>
>>56974294
And? Is the Windows version of Firefox designed to be used with a touchscreen?
>>
>>56974317
>using microsuck services
I think you need to get the fuck out of /g/. This is google territory whether you pajeets like it or not.
>>
>>56974334
Who said anything about using either? I'm talking operating systems, not fully utilizing the OS's "ecosystem"
>>
>>56974329
Yes, Chrome also works great on Windows touch.
>>
>>56974329
Yes.
>>
>>56974344
So you finally admit Android is superior, cool.
Throw your Surface Piece of shit in the trash if you want to stay on /g/.
>>
>>56974350
No it doesn't. It doesn't even scale correctly to high DPI screens so enjoy aiming really hard to switch tabs or click in links.
>>
>>56974329
yep.

kek, have you been criticizing and arguing this whole time without EVER HAVING USED IT? Well, that's /g/ for you.
>>
>>56974367
Works great for me™. For some reason it doesn't respect scaling if you have set it to 125% or below. But above that it works great.
>>
>>56974367
Yes it does. Mozilla added touchscreen support to Fx back when Windows 8 was still just a developer preview.

Into the trash Mozilla goes. Please use anything other than sjwfox.
>>
>>56974405
Oh I don't use Firefox, I was just answering the question as to whether or not it supports touchscreens. Guess what, it does.
>>
>>56974402
>microcuck accusing other companies of botnetting when they do it the hardest.
kys
>>
>>56974411
And how do you zoom with it? Do you go to the other room and plug in a keyboard and press Ctrl+? Or do you just hope that every site just magically works?
>>
>>56974433
Double tap, rarely have to use it even on my 8" screen.
>>
>>56974413
I just turn the botnet features off and then I use whatever the fuck programs I like

That's the fun part of using a real operating system :)
>>
I like my surface pro, but I still end up using my macbook more because the surface pro has by far the shittiest battery life of any device I've ever used.
>>
>>56974495

As a former SP3 owner, holy shit you were right. That's the main reason I switched to a laptop in the first place. I loved my SP3, but I really just needed to be away from an outlet for longer than a couple of hours.
>>
>>56974495
Opposite for me, I ditched my rMBP13 because of how bloated OSX has got. Using my Surface 3 as my portable computer, it makes a great netbook with an Active Digitizer.
I do feel for the owners of the SP3 and SP4, seems like there's a real issue with reliability of those, my S3 has been rock solid with great battery life.

desu I wish Microsoft wasn't the only company going for the real-OS-on-a-tablet thing, it's really fucking nice to have.
>>
>>56974534
I'm hoping the Spring 2017 refreshes fixes those issues.
>>
>>56974561
If only they could bring out a version of this with core-m, 8gb ram, and a thicker battery pack...
>>
