Should I make my 2D games using SDL or Directx?

>inb4 muh irrelevant portability
freetards pls fuck off.

I only care about windows and don't give a fuck about your hobby OS.

>I only care about windows
Then why are you asking this question
>>
>>56972682
Too bad then.
>>
>>56972697
I want a comparison.
>>
>I only care about windows
How about Windows 11?
What if only Directx 12 and up is supported, and you picked Directx 11?
What if you picked Directx12, but now your game can't run on Windows 8 or earlier?
Portability matters to everyone, not just freetards.

sdl is easier to use

SDL is easier to use and is directly backed by Valve.

And is supported on all OSs, for when you grow up.

>hobby OS

Good God, man, don't rope me in with weebs and NEETs.
>>
>>56972682
You should make an abstract transaction layer, so it works with both.
>>

JavaScript. It will port to every device / operating system and has a very fast development cycle. I can't see any reason to use a compiled language for a 2d game.
>>

>I want to limit my market
Okay.

Hate Linux if you want, you can be dumb like that and have your business be fine. But iOS and Android are an ever growing market for more of the games that even gamers like not just Angry Birds etc. Ignoring that is a real good way to fuck yourself over.

Windows also uses DX as a way to control a market and upgrades where older versions can get locked out of new OS and newer versions can get locked out of older ones. With Xbone swimming in shit they are likely to pull this to push W10 and forward.

Don't be a tool.

Use OpenGL bro
It might be a little harder to learn at first but, it's much more powerful and you can port it to pretty much any platform

>>56972961
Worst advice ever in case you took it seriously in the first place. Web based (JavaScript of all) graphics are still a joke
>>
>>56973062
3d runs fine in JS, even with rudimentary shaders. JavaScript is absolutely capable of supporting any 2d game the OP has in mind. What are you, using IE6 on a Pentium 2?

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
